Quote from RCN website:

"The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) members have agreed on six issues they want to see as the health priorities of the next UK Government. Nurses fly the flag for health but, whether you are a nurse or not, the campaign needs your help. Sign up to join the RCN's campaign here:"

The six issues they have chosen are:

Standing up for staff who speak out
*
Safer staffing levels
*
Give nurses the time to train
*
Protect the nation's health
*
Improve care for those with long term conditions
*
Sustain healthcare investment

hmm same old same old i am afraid.

Always the same subjects, i cant say that i have seen any evidence that they actually get anywhere.
I suppose i am heavily influenced by the campaigns for better pay for nurses...which actually always just remains a campaign.

Good lusk to them, its a nice thought.

What about that whistle blower who did the TV documentary who the RCN got struck off for not respecting patient confidentiality even though all patients consented to being on the programme.

Well, it is slightly shocking to outsiders that protecting whistleblowers was put on a par with having proper staffing levels.

Suggests a lot of strong feeling about the whistleblowers issue.

Oddly enough goth, I got an email about this, because I supported her at the time. Maybe the opinion has changed?

bit of back peddling where whistle blowing is concerned by the RCN me thinks

GothDetective · 03/02/2010 17:18

Well I think that whistleblowing is as much a patient safety issue as staffing levels if not more so to be honest.

Sidge · 03/02/2010 17:18

She has been reinstated.

I like the stated aims but they're nothing new are they? Nothing ever seems to change

sunburntats · 03/02/2010 17:20

exactly my point.

nighbynight · 03/02/2010 17:36

I think so too goth, but ime this is a minority opinion, and loads of people just dont want to know about whistleblowing, and even get angry if someone does it.

oh go on sign, if everyone did they might get somewhere.
