Has Andy Burnham ended up as PM somewhat under false pretences?

Please note that this is from a left wing Labour supporting paper.

It turns out that the marvellous redevelopment of Manchester that was the central plank of his credibility to become PM was triggered by the fall of Mubarak in Egypt in 2011 and what were effectively, or previously close to, bribes set up by the then Tory government to retain our massive defence contracts with the Middle East.

The owners of Man City, recently found guilty of breaking well over 100 financial football rules, are heavily involved. UK developers were excluded from access to large development contracts. Man City was sold a deal including the naming rights to the stadium, owned by the council, for £750k a year when professional rights brokers estimate the market value to be between £10m and £15m a year for the name alone.

The question is, did a local Mayor with no experience outside politics and only a tiny amount of experience of cabinet roles, (3 jobs in 3 years), get to be Prime Minister without a challenge on the strength of the development of the centre of his city that he actually only had a small part in creating?

It's explained above how many junior and senior ministerial roles KB held within a 5 year period in office. Pretty poor by anyone's metric. Substandard even. Couldn't hold down a job and moved on constantly.

How do you know she 'couldn't hold down a job' ? Maybe she transferred to get more experience?
The poor woman can't win.
If she had the same job for the whole time people would be saying that she didn't have "all-round experience".
Rolls eyes.

The Equalities minister who said that statutory maternity pay had "gone too far" and described it as "excessive" because it is a function of tax placed on working people and businesses. 🙄

@placemats "She failed to hold down any misinsterial roles when in Government "

Cobblers.

Badenoch held multiple senior and junior government roles between 2018 and 2024, including Secretary of State for Business and Trade and Minister for Women and Equalities. For a complete chronological list of her ministerial appointments, please consult GOV.UK.

A piss poor job she did in them too.

That was always someone else's fault though for stopping her from creating the sunny uplands filled with rainbows and unicorns.

As far as I can see, KB's main ministerial posts lasted longer than Andy Burnham's when he was a minister.

As far as I can see Burnham has never hacked an opposition MP’s computer or been accused of bullying.

Yeap - Burnham never lasted more than a year in any cabinet role before. We can probably assume it will be the same this time.

That’s not correct. He was Culture Secretary for 18 months and Health Secretary for a year until the 2010 general election.

We can only hope that the French electorate react the same way as the Brazilians if Le Pen wins the first round.

I find it sad that some seem to be cheering on Le Pen and, by extension, Putin.

It appears that support for Putin is becoming more acceptable, which I find very sad in view of what he’s doing in Ukraine.

Yes. And to his own people. All to appease his vanity.

Burnham reported yesterday as saying he will talk about increased foreign aid as reparation for slavery.

Jesus wept he's started an avalanche.

He really has.

The UK taxpayer will ultimately pay.

Yes, to his own people as well. The soldiers dying in their hundreds of thousands are obviously meaningless to him. They’re just cannon fodder.

Yep.

Andy Burnham is open to increasing financial assistance for Commonwealth countries to help atone for Britain’s role in the slave trade.

In a break with established government policy, The Telegraph understands that Mr Burnham will consider demands for investment in healthcare and education from African and Caribbean countries.

I don't just find it sad, I find it utterly disgusting. How anyone can show any support for that man is beyond belief.

Anything to the left of Le Pen and the AfD, one presumes.

Yes I should have expressed it in much stronger terms than I did. I completely agree with you, it’s disgusting.
