What do with think will be in Labour’s budget?

They don’t seem to be giving much away but any indication that they might help kickstart the economy or are we just going to get £2 bus fares, £45 off our elec bill a year and petrol prices on google map? None of Labour polices seem to help anyone that is really struggling but isn’t in receipt of UC! I’m speaking as a single mother who is trying to sell a property to move on with my life but can’t. Yes I know I’ve very fortunate to have bricks and mortar but that doesn’t mean I’m loaded (because the property isn’t worth much)! I feel like everyone is expecting the chancellor pull a rabbit out of a hat but I think we’ll all be very disappointed/pissed off!

Company owners, for example. However, I’m done educating people for today.

You’re not educating others. You’re telling us your opinions which you haven’t yet backed up with evidence. That’s not education.

Company owners is a terrible example of people accruing wealth while sacrificing very little.

A load of rubbish that doesn't help the average worker on low pay

And won’t help workers on average or middle range pay either. Basically won’t help any workers! Ironic that labour used to be the party of the worker, hence the name, but now they’re just the cash cows to pay for those on benefits.

And won’t help anyone set up businesses so they can employ more people.

Yup, they hate small business and self employment, but so did the Tories!

Maybe but I was just listening to someone talk about Kemi in glowing terms who is a business owner. He was right.

mumumental · 28/10/2026 08:55

Very much depends on the business.

Although I don’t expect to convince a Tory (or more), and much as I’m in favour of evidence, few on this board demand it in good faith.

BBC have said has bill standing charges will be scrapped in the budget. An estimated 60% of households will be £45 per year better off.

That’s about 12p per day. What can be bought in a supermarket for 12p?

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2026 09:15

£45 is a week’s shop for some people.

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2026 09:15

£45 is a week’s shop for some people.

Presumably they would have to wait until the end of 12 months to spend that 45/quid on their weekly shop….

Or blow the 12p/day.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 28/10/2026 09:22

Given it is cost neutral if the 60% lowest gas users will save an average of £45 the 40% highest gas users (i.e. people with large familty, inefficent homes or use the heating a lot during the day etc) will pay an extra £67.

£45 a year? That won’t even cover the extra cost due to food inflation.

I have no idea why the government are removing tariffs on sweets and jam, rather than fruit, vegetables and meat. At least ensure your policy links with your stated aims elsewhere, eg reducing obesity and improving health.

If only they could add a tariff to Ukrainian egg and reduce the salmonella outbreak hey!

BIossomtoes · 28/10/2026 09:24

It depends, doesn’t it? A lot of people will be grateful for £45 a year.

Electra10E · 28/10/2026 09:26

I’m sorry, but fiddling whilst Rome burns, does not come close to describing it.

Small-minded nonsense from small-minded politicians.

I’m sure people will be ‘grateful’ or probably not.

It’s evokes such a pitiful image doesn’t it?

People have been so ground down by this government, to the extent that they are supposed to feel grateful for 2 quid bus fares etc.

HelpMyBlackLabradorVotesReform · 28/10/2026 09:32

Rewarding low gas users makes sense. We should all be doing what we can to make our houses more energy efficient/get solar etc.

Yep. Or £45 a year. Labour doesn’t need ‘gratitude’ for a few pence a day, give those people more credit than that plus it’s patronising. And we need a better gov that allows businesses to grow and employ more people. Especially young people.

Your privilege is showing. I know someone whose standing charge is more than their gas charge for six months of the year. They’ll make good use of that £45 and they won’t be whining about it.

123H · 28/10/2026 09:39

The press release shouting about the ‘scrapping’ of the gas standing charge omits the fact that it’s simply being shifted onto the cost per unit of gas!

So, it’s not being ‘scrapped’ … it’s being relocated, and we will actually pay more per KWH for gas.

Please stop treating the public as if we are totally stupid!

All against a backdrop of real world job losses from AI.

Announced this week alone, 5,000 ex Barclays. GS is modelling 9% of the workforce, Gates has been vocal about what’s coming, and even the Pope is warning of ‘social calamity’.

Meanwhile, Burnham and co are focused on gherkins and beans.

Tibirose · 28/10/2026 09:41

I hope they would see the sense in lowering taxes, it’s just not worth all the extra stress and hassle of earning more when only get to keep less than half of any extra earnings. IMO is a significant factor holding growth back as especially affects skilled workers

Will that person inflation-adjust their 45 quid?

Yep, take your gherkins, be grateful and definitely ‘won’t be whining about it’. Fuck that frankly. How patronising.
