How long do you give Andy Burnham as PM?

Build ‘em up.
Knock ‘em down.

Short honeymoon and then the grumbling will start. It will all be over for him by Christmas.

So, who’s next?

You quoted me, you came here for that.
You didn’t add anything to the thread, you just ganged up.
That was uncalled for.

I have said nothing about you personally. Just queried if placemats's post was a TAAT, then made another comment that again was not directed at you personally. If you think that is ganging up, report my posts to mnhq.

I’m better that that.

Ah, is there ganging up on this thread? Fuck that then, I’m off.

Quite happy to dish out the insults and the gasps, aren't you.

hedgeknight · 28/07/2026 19:33

There is no ganging up unless you mean the multiple demands for proof of plans that a quick look at the media could have solved.

Filthy foreigners.

I thought after a weak start with daft small decisions he was finally starting to act a bit more like a real PM addressing some of the bigger problems.
Then I saw this in todays telegraph and though - what do these backbenchers want? They squeezed out KS and now are following the same path with AB? I say sack the lot of them.
Cut welfare and we’ll rebel, Labour MPs warn Burnham

Just to put us back on track - I have found the answer my own question, on the BBC:

The bursary will be paid for from a £30m pot, funded through the growth and skills levy, a tax on employers with annual wage bills over £3m.

So using the money already being used to fund apprenticeship training? Burnham does seem to have a remarkable ability to spend the same money twice.

hedgeknight · 28/07/2026 20:48

You want to cut the welfare bill by sacking people?

BIossomtoes · 28/07/2026 20:55

I see The Telegraph’s in full blown kite flying mode at the moment. And some people are falling for it hook, line and sinker.

I understand that this money was already committed. There is no new money for anything - it must be this reprioritising, again. It seems that they are following a Netherlands model of young people needing to do some community work to qualify for benefits, as well.

What a load of speculative nonsense. Do try better.

It's not overly difficult to believe given that the Labour MPs have a track record for already doing exactly that. Burnhams may better a communicator (at least when it comes to his preference to crisps over pork snatchings) - but he isn't a wizard.

They are desperately hoping for a repeat of what happened last year with the welfare Bill. The polls clearly have them rattled. Poor loves.

To be fair most of us are desperately hoping the Labour MPs don't block the cuts to welfare that this country really needs.

We don't want a repeat of last year - we want the cuts to happen.

You won't be getting the cuts that were proposed last year and thrown out, I doubt. Burnham has lots of faults but he isn't completely stupid.

The Telegraph uses lots of overly dramatic language in that article without even knowing what is proposed.

Best to wait for the actual proposals.

He doesn’t need to be a wizard. He’s clear he has no intention of cutting disability benefits and is looking elsewhere for reductions. Senior backbenchers like Meg Hilliard who voted against the Starmer cuts have already said they’ll back sensible reform.

Sorry I don't understand t your logic? Why would Burnham not being a wizard (it is clearly true he isn't a wizard - wizard don't exist mean Badenoch is a witch (a statement which can't be true since witches also don't exist)?

The what is now classic - I'm looking elsewhere line - maybe be at somepoint he will tell us where! Until then it is just blind faith.

Do you understand what logic means? Please explain how AB being unequal to wizard implies KD equals witch?
