Farage resigns as Clacton MP and will contest the by-election

Nigel Farage is resigning as MP for Clacton, triggering a by-election in the constituency - which he will stand in.

He says he wants the people of Clacton to decide whether he is worthy of representing them - not the mainstream media who he feels constantly attack him personally as well as the party he represents.

He’s down the chip shop. 😂

If he’s re-elected he’ll still be investigated for the grift gift, so it’s pointless. There must be some serious dirt for him to pull this stunt.

I agree he’s a shrewd operator but this only works if Clacton think he is being oppressed. I don’t know whether the people of Clacton do think that. What I do know is, that the enquiry will wait for him. Doing this is a circus, but it seems a bit… thin skinned.

But but, what does it achieve there? Surely raising his profile still further during a campaign incresses those things?

The problem is that Nigel Farage is interesting. He is even more interesting with these stories about him. I don’t think anyone will ask him about his policies, they will ask about 5 million quid and the company he keeps. Better headline.

I can't imagine that went down well with his constituents (and I would be interested to know how much time he has spent there)
He keeps claiming to be uniquely in danger as an MP and I have not heard him be challenged on this- two MPs have been murdered whilst doing their jobs. How can he possibly claim to be in more danger than them?

I dunno. I think this isn’t working. If no one stands against him his victim narrative just stalls.

Haters are always going to hate, and the hate will increase if Clacton say they want him as their MP. I guess he is the type of character that stands up to bullies and refuses to allow them to win.

If he is found to be guilty, maybe he can stay in parliament, but wear a tag like Marine Le Pen is having to.
