Farage resigns as Clacton MP and will contest the by-election

Nigel Farage is resigning as MP for Clacton, triggering a by-election in the constituency - which he will stand in.

He says he wants the people of Clacton to decide whether he is worthy of representing them - not the mainstream media who he feels constantly attack him personally as well as the party he represents.

He’s down the chip shop. 😂

You would have to blame those who support and elect him, if he does retain his seat in the by election. Stating the obvious there, but still....

If he’s re-elected he’ll still be investigated for the grift gift, so it’s pointless. There must be some serious dirt for him to pull this stunt.

Wow! So it really could be Farage v Binface.

Badenoch said: “We will be standing a candidate in the real by-election, which will follow the standards investigation into Nigel Farage’s fishy finances. We will not be standing a candidate in the fake by-election that Farage is causing to distract people from what is happening.
We need to let that investigation run its course, and I think the reason why Nigel Farage has resigned is because he’s terrified that he's going to be found to have done something wrong".

I think she might have read the situation better than Farage

BIossomtoes · 07/07/2026 18:20

Except he’s not because two of the main parties and Restore have said they won’t contest the seat. If Labour and the Greens do the same there’s no by-election or one with only Binface opposing him.

You'd think wouldn't you with the labour sycophancy on display at the moment. The Saviour has ridden in the 8:15 to Euston.

ByGraptharsHammer · 07/07/2026 18:25

I agree he’s a shrewd operator but this only works if Clacton think he is being oppressed. I don’t know whether the people of Clacton do think that. What I do know is, that the enquiry will wait for him. Doing this is a circus, but it seems a bit… thin skinned.

Did you listen to his speech? He is doing it because of all the hate being thrown his way, and the step too far was to involve his daughter. He is doing it to show that not everyone is a hater and that (if elected) he is, democratically, Clacton people’s choice.

But but, what does it achieve there? Surely raising his profile still further during a campaign incresses those things?

Plus amazing how many instances of harassment have never been reported. You'd think his famous security team would be on that.

You’re doing your best to leaven it on this thread. Shame nobody’s interested.

Because they won’t win! Posturing.

The problem is that Nigel Farage is interesting. He is even more interesting with these stories about him. I don’t think anyone will ask him about his policies, they will ask about 5 million quid and the company he keeps. Better headline.

Nowisthetimeforicecream · 07/07/2026 18:30

Burnhams bottled it already! Labour don't think they can beat Farage!

Says all we need to know.

slughater · 07/07/2026 18:31

Lead by Donkeys did a great video which they played on a van touring Clacton, all about the millions of pounds Farage 'earns' by his non-parliamentary side hustles
I can't imagine that went down well with his constituents (and I would be interested to know how much time he has spent there)
He keeps claiming to be uniquely in danger as an MP and I have not heard him be challenged on this- two MPs have been murdered whilst doing their jobs. How can he possibly claim to be in more danger than them?

ByGraptharsHammer · 07/07/2026 18:33

I dunno. I think this isn’t working. If no one stands against him his victim narrative just stalls.

Haters are always going to hate, and the hate will increase if Clacton say they want him as their MP. I guess he is the type of character that stands up to bullies and refuses to allow them to win.

I’m a bit baffled how an MP is allowed to call a by election for any reason other than their permanent resignation from that seat. Why on earth is it allowed? Or is it just something no halfway decent politician would do so they never made a rule against it happening?

He’s just a sleazy chaos merchant. Good at disruption and destruction, singularly lacking in positive constructive achievements.

It has happened before, but it’s rare.

Bullies like the Parliamentary Standards Committee?

I hope no one else stands in this fake by election

You actually believe that? Doesn’t everybody know why he’s doing it and it’s not for his daughter who have never heard of before?

Just you and Nige soon

It's not as though any one has suggested that he do anything more than follow the rules.

He is just throwing a hissy fit because he is very thin skinned and has been caught out.

Of course not. Has he been convicted by them?

Davey what an utter joke never seen in his constituency and done SFA, zero! An absolute abomination …he’s riden the gravy train for decades.

crackofdoom · 07/07/2026 18:40

So if this by- election doesn't happen, does Farage remain as an MP, therefore continue to be under investigation? Is that how it works?

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 07/07/2026 18:41

If he is found to be guilty, maybe he can stay in parliament, but wear a tag like Marine Le Pen is having to.

It seems so. His plan has spectacularly misfired.
