Farage resigns as Clacton MP and will contest the by-election

Nigel Farage is resigning as MP for Clacton, triggering a by-election in the constituency - which he will stand in.

He says he wants the people of Clacton to decide whether he is worthy of representing them - not the mainstream media who he feels constantly attack him personally as well as the party he represents.

Burnhams bottled it already! Labour don't think they can beat Farage!

Says all we need to know.

Oh dear.

Meanwhile if Binface wins I assume there is no need for a second by-election because Farage won't be an MP.

So if this by- election doesn't happen, does Farage remain as an MP, therefore continue to be under investigation? Is that how it works?

Yes. Even if he gets returned he is still going to be investigated. He seems to be saying he’s a victim. Maybe some might believe it, but it’s a tough sell imo

Haters are always going to hate, and the hate will increase if Clacton say they want him as their MP. I guess he is the type of character that stands up to bullies and refuses to allow them to win.

Righto. Nowt to do with trousering dodgy money from dodgy people?

ilovebrie8 · 07/07/2026 18:44

They are all standing down as they’ve no chance to beat Farage…it’s posturing.

Tories are toast and no longer a serious party.

Politics is all bluff and bluster.

GoneWithTHeWindJammers · 07/07/2026 18:44

Will there be another bloody 11 minutes added on?

TopPocketFind · 07/07/2026 18:38

Burnham has no say in it. Badenoch, Davey and Lowe won't stand either

Just you and Nige soon

It just proves none of the other parties give a shit about places like Clayton. Presumably not "northern" enough.

I think the by-election still happens, but as Farage has resigned he either runs un-opposed or against bin face.

There are sometimes un-opposed by elections when an MP dies.

bafta16 · 07/07/2026 18:45

@FirstNationsEnglish What do you admire about him?

So, if you are a Reform supporter, who thinks he'll win easily regardless, and if you don't think the inquiry is a problem for him, why has he done this?

MellowMelinda · 07/07/2026 18:46

FirstNationsEnglish · 07/07/2026 18:40

Of course not. Has he been convicted by them?

No, he’s resigned as an MP to avoid being investigated by them.

soddingspiderseason · 07/07/2026 18:47

Nowisthetimeforicecream · 07/07/2026 18:25

You'd think wouldn't you with the labour sycophancy on display at the moment. The Saviour has ridden in the 8:15 to Euston.

yes, shame Burnham doesn’t have a dodgy mate to give him £5 million or a team of staff and a luxury town house.

FirstNationsEnglish · 07/07/2026 18:47

Onmytod24 · 07/07/2026 18:36

You actually believe that? Doesn’t everybody know why he’s doing it and it’s not for his daughter who have never heard of before?

Yes, I do believe that is why he is standing for re-election. What do you know about his reason? I am part of ‘everybody’, and I don’t know. I also believe that any loving parent would object to the parent’s haters starting to target their child, even if some folk, including me, had never before heard of her.

bafta16 · 07/07/2026 18:45

Probably his ability to grift multi millions without a shred of accountability.

What does his daughter gain by him being on all the front pages again?

He did have a dodgy mate who gave him his seat in return for a plumb tax payer funded job,. The king gives the bribes!

And you are absolutely free to believe that, just as other people are free to believe that he is in the pocket of foreign billionaires.

Surely though, if he is re-elected, that does not go away?

If he is re-elected the investigation continues.

He’ll say it’s family voting or the Muslim block vote. Pound to a penny George Galloway will stand, he loves the sound of his own voice.

FirstNationsEnglish · 07/07/2026 18:49

Why do you think the investigation goes away?

The regulations haven't changed.

Edited to add: sorry, my mistake, misread your post.

nicepotoftea · 07/07/2026 18:50

If he is re-elected the investigation continues.

And I'm sure the Labour and Conservative MPs that sit on the committee will give him a fair hearing!

Birthdayfeel · 07/07/2026 18:51

nicepotoftea · 07/07/2026 18:50

If he is re-elected the investigation continues.

So how is he avoiding it by standing down and re-standing? I'm sure there must be a way, but I don't know what it is?
