Farage resigns as Clacton MP and will contest the by-election

Nigel Farage is resigning as MP for Clacton, triggering a by-election in the constituency - which he will stand in.

He says he wants the people of Clacton to decide whether he is worthy of representing them - not the mainstream media who he feels constantly attack him personally as well as the party he represents.

Please stop trying to make fetch 'the king' happen.

Edited

I'm not trying to make the king happen. It is already a thing - it's literally the nickname he uses for himself - he put it on his wikipedia page. Do you prefer the Saviour or the Mosiah?

Not sure there is much of Muslim block in Clacton?

There isn’t. It was a joke. It’s what he usually says when he loses a by-election.

@nicepotoftea If he were concerned about his daughter he would just resign and carry on making money. Nothing he has done in the last few days protects her.

Good point. But some lions do not slink away but go on the attack when a cub is threatened.

His problem is that he seems to have made some of his money by making promises about crypto regulation to crypto billionaires. The odd thing is that there is nothing illegal about this. As an MP, he just has to be transparent and declare it. However, for some reason he doesn't want the electorate to have this information.

Tbh, I have not taken much notice. As soon as anyone talks ‘crypto’ my brain switches off. Having said that, I once watched a Netflix presentation about it, and for a few minutes it all made sense.

But some lions do not slink away but go on the attack when a cub is threatened.

What part of this 'attack' helps his daughter?

The question is whether he is more concerned about the needs of the people who give him vast amounts of money or the needs of the British people. It is up to the electorate to decide, but they can't do that if he isn't transparent about who is paying him.

I would also add that all the investigation done by journalists about his links to Harborne and Posh George is in the public interest. If he doesn't want that kind of scrutiny then he shouldn't be in politics.

There will still be an election. It's not like the Labour leadership where you can just stitch it up by paying off your rivals with cabinet roles.

Farage will look a right chump though. 🙈

I know you didn't invent it, but you're the sole proponent of it on these threads and it's a bit relentless. Everyone else manages to just call him Burnham.

ByGraptharsHammer · 07/07/2026 19:28

I agree the risk is that he looks thin skinned and silly for nothing. It is nothing, particularly if no one else stands. For all we know Clacton might be thinking he’s too soft!

It's a bit disrespectful to refer to the king as Burnham. No one refers to the other King as just Windsor.

Count Binface is currently soliciting nominations from Clacton residents

I am not his mind reader; none of us knows apart from him and maybe those close to him. If he is the type of character who does not back away from percieved threat and also the type of character that fights back, he may think he is sending an unequivocal message ‘STOP! Or else’. Maybe he thinks this is his best way of getting those who have allegedly targetted her to desist.

I forgot to add that no individual who stands for public election should be above scrutiny.

Even if he losses he can still lead Reform and once they win the next election he can just get one of his MPs to stand down and take their seat.

Aww bless, Farage is toast. Peiple have seen just how corrupt he is and the inevitable slide down the polls has started.

@Twiglets1 do you? Name me a suitable candidate from the Tories who could stand against Farage at the moment?

Hate to say it but… Boris!

Lions don't hold by-elections when feeling under threat. It's a rather aggrandising comparison. Farage is behaving much more like a weasel - trying to wriggle out from under scrutiny. He isn't defending his daughter; he's trying to defend himself from being exposed as thoroughly corrupt. He's only similar to a lion in that he's immensely lazy.

D’ya reckon? I wouldn’t know. I am sure it will all eventually come out in the wash - either to the backslapping and cheers and further hate of his haters, or to the backslapping and cheers and approval of his supporters.

How is he sending a message? What is the 'or else'?

nicepotoftea · 07/07/2026 20:05

To be fair this just seems like standard practice given the amount.

Burnham has caused 2 elections. How is that different

I don’t really like that manoeuvring either however, the difference is that the outgoing candidates were not immediately going to put themselves up for reelection.

As I said, I am not his mind reader. Listen to what he said today, that may help you more. Tbh I am not that bothered either way as I merely offered one possible explanation to one poster who asked a particular question and that suggestion seems to have some folk thinking I can answer for him.

He should have to pay the election costs from his personal fortune.

is personal or party financing allowed? His gullible cult members are offering to pay. Hundreds of them saying they will do a fundraiser. Ordinarily people, a significant number who’ve got nothing to their name, I bet. Poor deluded souls.

You're discounting Count Binface who has already indicated he will fight the seat.

Looks like Binface will have a clear run if he’s the only opponent 🍿

Reform only got 46% of the vote.

Haters are always going to hate, and the hate will increase if Clacton say they want him as their MP. I guess he is the type of character that stands up to bullies and refuses to allow them to win.

He’s a fraud and a Temu Trump.

The only thing he’s standing for is to distract from and cause a circus around his corruption.

Nothing more.

How very Trumpian.
