Farage resigns as Clacton MP and will contest the by-election

Nigel Farage is resigning as MP for Clacton, triggering a by-election in the constituency - which he will stand in.

He says he wants the people of Clacton to decide whether he is worthy of representing them - not the mainstream media who he feels constantly attack him personally as well as the party he represents.

He isn't trying to avoid it.

He is trying to make a political point that the people don't care.

However, if he wants to become PM he needs to persuade more than the people of Clacton.

I mean maybe it will be a total circus in Clacton with him doubling down saying “Hey Clacton, was I wrong to protect myself with money?”

Just because I gave a potential reason to the question ‘why?’ as to my thoughts about why he is resigning and restanding … it is a bit of a leap for the assertion I admire him.

If he were concerned about his daughter he would just resign and carry on making money. Nothing he has done in the last few days protects her.

His problem is that he seems to have made some of his money by making promises about crypto regulation to crypto billionaires. The odd thing is that there is nothing illegal about this. As an MP, he just has to be transparent and declare it. However, for some reason he doesn't want the electorate to have this information.

Binface is a far more fragrant "breath of fresh air" than sleazy Nigel.

Even if he losses he can still lead Reform and once they win the next election he can just get one of his MPs to stand down and take their seat.

Tbh, I have not taken much notice. As soon as anyone talks ‘crypto’ my brain switches off. Having said that, I once watched a Netflix presentation about it, and for a few minutes it all made sense.

Or it could be that if nobody stands against him then he is automatically elected, which means that the investigation will continue as is. Now he's resigned the whole thing is stopped, but if he's elected again then the investigation is re-opened. Farage did all this in the hope that the whole thing will go away. My guess is he won't be campaigning very hard because if he wins then the questions won't go away. He's not as clever as he and his guillible fan base think he is.

There will still be an election. It's not like the Labour leadership where you can just stitch it up by paying off your rivals with cabinet roles.
