Do you want a change of leader?

BBC are predicting the PM should stand down. I know this is not news, but why can we not have a period of stability?

Andy Burnham is much lefter in terms of policies and may not follow the manifesto Labour got in on.

Left or right the country needs a longer term plan.

What do others think?

Exactly this and always they’ve fallen for it hook, line and sinker… Starmer is very decent and definitely the best we have on offer as a country… but ‘they’ will read and believe the propaganda!

You have inspired me to write to my MP ... what else can we do?

TheAutumnCrow · 20/06/2026 21:19

MulberryBrandy · 20/06/2026 21:11

And don't even mention Chris Mason - who seems to exist solely on generating huge amounts of froth as if he needs it to feed on ... 🐛

Edited

Oh yes, Frothy McFrothface Mason. He can fuck off as well.

MulberryBrandy · 20/06/2026 21:37

I mean it feels like a reality programme where someone is lurking behind the scenes and they go in and nick things and mess everyone up .....

yellowsunglasses · 20/06/2026 22:08

I would categorise myself as being reasonably left wing, and in an ideal world I do like Burnham and what he suggests.

Having said that, this country needs some stability. We had duck duck prime minister towards the end of the Tory’s era and it was chaos. No one knew if they were coming or going and everyone wanted to do something different to show they were a good change. It was ridiculous and it brought massive instability to the country (hello liz truss)

Im not Starmer’s biggest fan, but he has kept us well out of international conflicts that we definitely do not want to be involved with, all whilst keeping Trump from having a hissy fit about us. He’s also reasonably kept to their manifesto with things like the Renters Rights Act. I do think his problem is largely that you can’t please everyone. I think Labour need to pick, are we going further right with this tough immigration stance? Or are we going further left with these generous welfare promises? As it stands they’re just pissing off both sides. I don’t think it works, but for what it’s worth I don’t think that is personally down to Starmer either.

If anyone needs to go it’s Reeves 🤷🏻‍♀️

TooBigForMyBoots · 20/06/2026 23:54

He's been undermined by the MSM since day one and portrayed as the devil incarnateAnyone thinking that any other leader won't receive the same treatment from our biased media and frothing social media is naive.

💯 @Figgygal.
👏👏👏

Slawbans · 21/06/2026 00:00

Burnham is too left wing to be elected in this country. Starmer was elected on a centrist position. Changing tack midway through is anti democratic and labour will pay for it. And we’ll end up with Nigel. So.. Irresponsible

TooBigForMyBoots · 21/06/2026 00:02

TheAutumnCrow · 20/06/2026 21:05

No.

The BBC and Laura bloody Kuenssberg & pals can fuck off. And take Fiona Bruce with them just because.

I've watched GB "News" since before he was elected. They hate Labour so much they'd rather see the UK burn 🔥 than make any progress under a Labour government. Doesn't matter who's in charge of it.

SpinelessBastardsAll · 21/06/2026 00:06

No, we need to buckle down.

RaphaelDidIt · 21/06/2026 00:06

Id want keir starmer to stay. I don't want more personality politics. I've not heard anything from Andy Burnham about what he'd do differently - he doesn't have a vision - other than not be KS. I don't think he's got a grasp on how difficult everything is right now. I worry about his fiscal policies and international relations.

I don't think he's a grown up. Being a regional mayor isn't the same as leading a country.

I'm also frustrated. Party fractions and factions will mean Farage will win.

Middle of the road is what the country needs. And we should stick with KS.

Dragonscaledaisy · 21/06/2026 00:11

Lalgarh · 20/06/2026 14:28

There's been mutterings that Burnham would have ex transport secretary Louise Haigh as chancellor.

This throws all the upfront sexist "Rachel from accounts" stuff about Reeves into sharp relief. She may have finessed her CV over her role in the bank of England, but Haigh has no economics or finance background at all. Let alone that she had to resign because of lying about that lost phone

Reeves didn't 'finesse' her CV - she lied. She was woefully out of her depth as chancellor and should have been fired long ago.

TheFormidableMrsC · 21/06/2026 02:34

I really do not want a change of leader. I hope Kier Starmer stays put. We cannot have yet more instability.

MustardBear · 21/06/2026 03:00

I didn’t vote Labour in the last election, but I want Kier Starmer to stay. I even contacted my local (Labour) MP to say as much when the whole Wes Streeting thing blew up a few weeks ago.
I agree with the majority on this thread. We need stability. This is not the time for egotistical career moves.

menopausequeen · 21/06/2026 03:20

Yes I’d like Kemi Badenhoch

Level1469 · 21/06/2026 04:20

How do people expect "stability" to happen, when two-thirds of the country and half the Labour party hate Starmer and he spends all his energy defending his ridiculous position?

What do you want, stable incompetence and permanent decline, that kind of stability?

General election has to happen. The cracks are too big to be papered over.

InQuiresandplaceswheretheysing · 21/06/2026 04:37

Arewethereyetarewe · 20/06/2026 07:48

I think Keir has been a steady ship. Yeah he is not exciting but has more substance than some.

I agree about a cross party focus. There are many issues to resolve, NHS, social care and global warming. Not to mention war in europe and so forth.

Completely agree. Im
also quite impressed how he’s stood his ground with the orange toddler.

Lifesd · 21/06/2026 04:59

Im No Starmer fan or Labour voter but this whole Andy Burnham coronation (if it happens) stinks to me. But most of all I wish politicians on all sides would stop messing about and thinking about their own power and address the serious issues facing the UK!

dnac · 21/06/2026 05:37

No, definitely not. AB will not be able to change much except by going way further to the left and his own ego would stop him from doing that if he thought it would make him unpopular. Plus the country’s standing on the global stage would be damaged by that. And I’m utterly fed up of being told by the media (principally the drama queen Chris Mason who seems to exaggerate everything to justify his job at the BBC) that I do want a different leader. Running a country is not straightforward and policies take time to take effect. I can see that as can most people. Why can no one take a long term view? Also why is the intelligence of the British public insulted at every turn by a media who tell us what “we” want? Please let KS stay.

Hermiaxx · 21/06/2026 08:03

No! I don’t know anyone who really does! I don’t understand why steady (boring) Starmer is being pushed out. He was voted in and should stay put and AB can FO back to Manchester thank you very much!!!

Arewethereyetarewe · 21/06/2026 08:44

Thanks for posting. I am so pleased I started this. There are so many good points being made and a shared dissatisfaction with the constant change.

If AB has the country at heart surely he would stop this posturing and allow the current party head to deliver the manifesto?

While we don’t vote for the PM people do consider who it is when deciding on the party.

I wish labour and some of the MPs would think bigger than themselves ☹️

If AB turns up, I doubt he will achieve the miracle he appears to be promising. Setting the tone for Reform to step in at the next election.

Most people I know want the combination of Starmer and Reeves gone as soon as possible. Hopefully, he will resign tomorrow.

MulberryBrandy · 21/06/2026 08:49

Thanks @Arewethereyetarewe I'm glad you started this thread. I sent an email to my MP a few minutes ago.. for the moment, at least, if feels right to say:

Keep Keir

NonViolentProtest · 21/06/2026 08:50

You'd think after the endless psychodrama cycles of the Tory leadership, people would be happy with a bit of dull competence. I know I would prefer it. If we must have a new PM, I hope Labour present a united front and a smooth transition and keep Keir in a key ministerial role.

JoyousOpalLemur · 21/06/2026 08:51

Labour turned on Starmer the moment his popularity dipped.

If Burnham starts to be unpopular, the same will happen.

Mark my words.

Greenleavesandsunshine · 21/06/2026 08:57

I’m baffled by the Starmer hate. He’s a Labour version of Sunak, solid and a bit boring. He’s no Truss or Johnson or even Corbyn - I can understand why people hate them even if I don’t agree with their point of view.
