The most famous documentarian in America, Ken Burns, recently did a multi-part history of the American Revolution, which I've been re-watching on television. It includes a very famous excerpt, which the forum might appreciate, from a letter in 1776 from Abigail Adams to her husband John Adams (later second president of the U.S.) when he was working on crafting the foundational documents for America:

I desire you would Remember the Ladies, and be more generous and favourable to them than your ancestors. Do not put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember all Men would be tyrants if they could.

Abigail Adams to John Adams - "Remember The Ladies"

Abigail Adams wrote a letter asking the statemen to "remember the ladies" as they considered a new government.
