Catherine West has has just kicked off the process by which the Labour Party may have its first leadership election since Keir Starmer was elected in 2020.

I mean, it's a stunt as she will never get the full 81.

Gives the whole debacle more legs, though.....

Apparently, she has or can - according to media reports.

The atmosphere among political journalists on X tonight is feverish.

Apparently this stunt by West is entirely about trying to stop Burnham taking on Starmer, and she's supported by both Streeting and Rayner.

Burnham needs several weeks til he's ready to launch leadership bid, Streeting and Rayner are both ready to go in the next week.

The Louise Haigh action is apparently about trying to get Ed Milliband in - but others are saying he wants Burnham.

One thing is clear though - it's total chaos in the Labour Party tonight. Senior figures are briefing against everyone - West, Starmer, Rayner, Streeting, Milliband, Haigh and Burnham.

That’s nice colour - thank you.

The plot thickens.

Really!

Crikey. On Times Radio they reckoned not, although their interviewee claimed the threshold used to be 40 and Starmer changed it - is that true?
