Oh mate, if only. Every time someone (on the local Facebook group) points out another failing of the Reform run local authority here, the numpties are queuing up to excuse them and their valiant leader and explain how it’s all the fault of someone, anyone, else.

I was coming here to say exactly this.

Reform have an appalling track in delivering yet it hasn’t stopped anyone voting for them.

It will ALWAYS be someone else’s fault. Too many of the nasty immigrants in the area or if that fails, blame Keir Starmer or the Tories.

And their voters will believe whatever nonsense they spout because good ol’ Nige is sticking it to the elite.

Fair play to Farage - he’s seen how Trump has done it in the US and is just copying the formula over here. It’s a master class in corruption and brainwashing.

cantgardenintherain · 10/05/2026 11:13

Apparently it’s the media’s fault today. Ah well. Vote for a Trump cutout, get a Trump cutout.

Lead story in The Observer today:
The man who bought Britain
Christopher Harborne funded the Brexit party, put £5, in the pocket of Nigel Farage and bankrolled Reform to become a national party. He is a crypto billionaire who lives in Thailand.

The Tories have reported it to the parliamentary standards.

I just shared a link to The Observer about the undeclared 'gift'.

Neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg.

That's a very low bar you have for people in public office.

DuncinToffee · 10/05/2026 13:12

Tice on Laura Kuensberg today defended the gift with

“The State wouldn’t provide funding for the security of Nigel”

Ocourse at the time of the gift, Farage wasn't an MP so why would the state provide for his security?

He only decided to stand as MP after the gift.

It was Tice. He implied that Reform voters don’t care about Farage’s dishonesty.

I spotted it as soon as I posted, have edited it.

I do care.
I care how much he gets, from who and I want to know the reason.
For someone who is so patriotic and wants foreigners out, he has lots of foreign connections. Foreigner funders who do not live in UK. Why? Who are these people? What do they want in return?
Surely these guys are not worried about long GP waiting lists, NHS waiting lists, dentists waiting lists. Because they do not live here.......

Agreed - even my dog manages that.

sofiathewurst · 10/05/2026 13:42

The standards for being in public office in this country are shockingly low. Any old toerag can stand for election and as long as they talk the talk their name goes on the ballot paper. No checks, nothing.
I think re NFs 5mill, that the people who like him will turn a blind eye or defend it because they just don't care how he gets power, they want him in. They don't consider how that power will affect them as they don't think they'll ever be the target of their policies. As long as the people they resent/ blame/ hate are the target at the point of voting they'll put their cross in his box. I mean, the local elections were voted on, certainly where I live, mainly national issues, and we were an area that had great local councillors for local issues. I dread to think how things will pan out locally now, I really do.

sofiathewurst · 10/05/2026 14:57

And already one of Reform's newly elected councillors has just been suspended...
