Unsure who to vote for in Wales at the upcoming elections

I have been having a look at who to vote for in the upcoming elections
I live in Wales and don't understand politics much but also don't want to not vote! Suffrigettes fought for my vote.

Labour have screwed women over in Wales for years. Waiting lists for endometriosis are obscene! Labour have had the chance for years and failed. They just want to squeeze the middle earners.

The Conservatives can never be forgiven for their behaviour in lockdown.

The Green party have lots of issues.

Plaid Cymru has the same issues as the green party! And they want independence which will not work.

Reform are heinous!

Lib dems have been my go to in the past but I don't know enough about them now!

Sadly there is no Monster Raving loony party in my area!

What do I do?

I'm voting Labour. The Women's Health Plan is only just coming into action and should make a difference for endometriosis. More money coming from Westminster now which should make a difference in the longer term. And my local candidates are mostly good.

Can’t ever be forgiven for what, Exactly? Covering up gangs of predatory men ?

ConcernedForWales · 04/05/2026 14:11

If you don't want Reform to be in control of Wales, then any party except Reform or Tory.

Which constituency are you in?

Xanadu78 · 04/05/2026 14:19

Vale of Glamorgan.

Conservatives were having parties in Downing Street while I was not allowed to travel or visit my dad in hospice care.

Also the conservatives had 14 years to have an inquest into the grooming gangs why was this not done then?

Reform would be the very worst outcome

Whilst I agree with the OP about the parties Boris & mates were a minority of Conservative MPs.
Kemi Badenock and Mel Stride are very different people. Now Jenrick and some others have left we shall see a steadier and more ethical party to put the case for Conservatism. There are good reasons to vote and support your Welsh Tories.
Everyone who can work should work. Families should support each other not immediately look for the state to bail them out. All Conservative candidates support the NHS.
Conservatives know the difference between men and women and neither can change.

This is the latest polling for your area, so to keep Reform out it has to be either Plaid or Labour?

I don't know. The polling could be way off the mark, though. It was in Caerffili.

Confusedmermaid1 · 04/05/2026 21:22

I’m voting plaid to keep reform out but agree there doesn’t feel like a good choice whichever one you vote for..

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/05/2026 21:27

I think under the new voting system, vote for who you want, agree with the problem though, who do we vote for?

Reform - nutters
Conservatives - haven’t helped themselves.
Lib Dem’s - introduced uni fees, want to tax everyone more.

Greens - not really Green as will build pylons everywhere.
Labour - shocking health service, only help people in South Wales
Plaid - Nationalist nutters - also want to ‘incentivise’ students to stay in Wales and frankly I don’t want to go back the days of the generation before me where everyone married their cousin.

Bourneo · 04/05/2026 21:33

Thanks for this thread, having the exact same problem! No idea who to go for. Based on the percentages above i guess I'll go for plaid to keep reform out

Blimey. How old are you? I am getting on a bit and don't recall that nor do my parents.

Quite old and quite rural!

LlynTegid · 04/05/2026 21:41

Plaid is the best option to keep Reform out. Choose the party of Wales, to avoid government in Wales by people who treat it as if a region of England.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 04/05/2026 21:54

But Plaid want division, they want separate schools, they want separate systems and independence. They play on people’s emotions about what it is to be Welsh but with little substance. They have no real plan to grow the economy or tackle health and social care.

I couldn't vote for any party that wants to take us out of the ECtHR, which is the source of most of our human rights protections that cannot be adequately replaced within our Parliamentary system. Line in the sand stuff, for me.

People could easily understand where transgender rights infringed upon women's rights. Leaving the ECtHR would be so much more damaging, but it seems too nuanced for many to grasp.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 05/05/2026 06:28

Plaid want to cut maintenance grants for Welsh students who study in England. Want your kid to go to Birmingham, Liverpool or Manchester, all closer than Cardiff to anyone in North Wales or to a top Uni ?? Cardiff highest ranked is not even in the top 20, this is disgusting.
