We need 30,000 more signatures to hit 100,000 and force a UK Parliament debate on mandatory labeling for stunned and non-stunned meat! Let's put our differences aside—whether for animal welfare, religious choices (Halal/Kosher), or ethics—and unite for transparency in our food. What do you think—should all meat be clearly labeled? Reply below! #MeatLabeling #ConsumerRights

Are you also concerned about overloading of animal transport lorries on the way to slaughter, delays in unloading lorries, injury during transport, aggressive practices while herding animals into place, the use of electric prods, sticks, whips and pitchforks, etc, etc, etc?

If not, why not? Perhaps because this wouldn't have the effect of stirring up sentiment against religious minorities?

InWithPeaceOutWithStress · 19/01/2026 20:04

Factory farming is worse. I assume everything you eat is free range and ethically sourced?

There's always an excuse to do nothing. 👏 and I do.

Christ, Mumsnet is so toxic.

Who are these women who bash another woman for trying to help animals in some way? Constant tedious identity politics: you only care because you're a racist! Always seeing everyone in the worst possible light.

Yes, transport issues etc are bad, but the issue of a violent, fully conscious death drowning in your own blood is surely a worthy target? Stunning was invented for a reason.

ithinkiveseenthisfilm · 20/01/2026 16:36

I literally could not care less if it’s stunned or not.

The entire concept of the meat industry is cruel. If you’re going to eat meat, you need to accept that.

Secretseverywhere · 20/01/2026 16:58

A local butcher was selling beef that had been killed by a mobile abattoir which reduces animal stress, Im hoping on farm slaughter will become more commonplace as transport seems an ordeal. I would prefer animals be stunned as it seems better but I appreciate a pp point that it’s a pretty awful industry and dead is dead.

You do know right that the majority of halal meat is stunned right....

And research also shows that if you mandated the labelling of slaughter method, then demand for non-stun is actually likely to increase as many Muslims do not realise that meat can be halal and stunned?

By all means campaign for all meat to be stunned - i agree it is more humane and should be in place, but be careful what accidental consequences you cause by just calling for the labelling of slaughter method.

Chickenwing2 · 20/01/2026 17:47

I agree that a better solution is to go vegan (or vegetarian if that’s too much)

Most farming practices in the UK are appauling. Please research how the majority of farmed pigs live.

Oh you sweet naive thing… bless you if you think this post is genuinely about animal welfare…

LifeOfAShowgirl13 · 20/01/2026 17:57

Just go vegan if you care so much.

HostaCentral · 20/01/2026 18:04

I don't want to eat halal meat. I want it to legally be stunned, but I also don't want some idiot saying a prayer over it.

Palladin · 21/01/2026 07:25

Why should people have to choose only one aspect of animal cruelty they care about?
It is perfectly possible to be vegan AND protest against long transports AND be against factory farming AND ask for animals to be stunned before slaughter etc etc.

Thanks OP, signed.

Why? It doesn’t affect the taste.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 21/01/2026 07:31

First post nailed it.

If you're only concerned about this one aspect of the welfare of the animals that you eat, then that suggests that your primary agenda is something other than animal welfare.

I don't eat meat at all, but I won't be signing your stupid petition. I will happily sign something which calls for better standards of animal welfare across all aspects of meat production though.

DefinitelyNotMaybe · 21/01/2026 07:31

If you think 'stunned' meat - ie: birds dunked briefly in electrified water - is humane, you need to wake up. No living being wants to have its life taken violently for the sake of your carcinogenic meal.

Dont worry, its just the norm, people can believe what they like but to get a better world we have to go slower each piece of new legislation helps this one step further. Thanks for your comment. 👍
