Good on Kemi!

I'm no fan of Kemi Badenoch, but I'm even less of a fan of Robert Jenrick, and I'm rather delighted to see that she has sacked him and withdrawn the whip before he could jump to Reform.

She has definitely had the last laugh here. He must be spitting bullets!!

On the thread topic, yes Kemi is really coming into her own. I liked her stance on women’s rights, and was sorry she didn’t have time to see it through. She is turning out to be a good leader.

She is clear thinking and doesn’t get side tracked by impossible fantasies.

It must be hugely stressful for her. No idea who is about to defect, no idea who she can trust. Hideous.

It’s mostly how the left operate though (obviously not you)

To be balanced I have seen this from people from all political sides these days. It’s sad that people can’t debate and discuss without name calling. I think we all have a duty to call out that 💩 regardless of political views. (Appreciate it’s easier said than done, and I’m not perfect and have occasionally reacted badly).

Many areas of work aren't unionised. They seem to be able to claim sick pay, maternity pay and holiday pay still, as is their legal right.

I'm not against unions per se and I think collective action is a good thing. I just think they have too much power in the workplace. Many call for strikes far too often on minimal votes, causing huge disruption and cost and the government has to cave in. And many are run by zealots eg the BMA. And Labour want to increase their powers as if they have no recollection of history of this country. I suppose Keir Starmer doesn't read as he claims, but really.

It’s their legal right because unions have fought their employers a campaigned for changes in the law, which now protect everyone regardless of whether they have unions in the workplace. So without unions we wouldn’t have these rights.

Yep

Whilst I don't think he lies, Starmer does seem to make up his policy as he goes! Will next weeks u-turn be jury trials or mansion taxes?

Public perception is worse than that, from More in Common

Sir Keir Starmer ends 2025 as the most unpopular British prime minister in polling history, while Rachel Reeves, his chancellor, plumbs similar depths of public dislike. But one thing still surprises the pollsters: the level of apparent hatred felt towards them.

“I can normally understand where the public are coming from but I admit this is surprising,” said Luke Tryl, of the More in Common polling organisation. “There’s a real dislike, even loathing of Starmer and Reeves.”

“In focus groups, people say Starmer is a liar and only said what he thought he needed to say to get elected,”

I think that gives him too much credit! He too wishy washy to have any real opinions to be lying about. He needs to go. They should let Lammy have a go.

I think Starmer is very skilled at letting others take the flak by appearing to have no opinion.

Dragonflytamer · 17/01/2026 17:01

He is the second best that Labour has...he'd Deputy Prime Minister. The Labour talent pool is about as shallow as it can get. Maybe Raynor will step up to the plate.

Pineneedlesincarpet · 17/01/2026 10:28

Hang on....someone has just said there were no power cuts in the Labour years and I'm the one making thing up?

You lefties don't help yourselves.

Nope, obviously local ones, tree across the line sort of thing... but the power cuts caused by power stations unable to meet demand, were under Heath...

Main miners strikes were 1972 and 74 and again in 1984 and 85... there were power cuts then (under the Tories) maybe you re getting your dates mixed up?

You can Google it, if you don't believe me.

And not been able to back up your claims of widespread power cuts under Labour.

Perhaps the Home Counties' electricity supply was running on a rickety wee generator?

So what? You re still wrong.

Like i said, for every Labour cock up, they'll be a bigger Tory one....

But the right wing media have done a sterling job on Starmer and Reeves, that much is obvious, they'll lie, twist and distort anything at all and public have lapped it up.
Though its also true that Starmer/Reeves have not made it hard for them...

I suppose if you view the "right wing media" as anything to the right of the Socialist Worker that is true.

PandoraSocks · 17/01/2026 11:31

It is great. We need strong unions.

Perhaps if Thatcher hadn't taken away so much of their powers, wages wouldn't have plummeted. We wouldn't have the situation where the state is subsidising low paying employers.

Yeah, women really need unions like Unison who are unbelievably anti-woman. 🙄

I don't need the press to tell me how shit Labour is. I can see it with my own eyes, and from reports from some of my clients (national retailers) re redundancies as a direct result of Labour's policies.

I already said that I experienced many and regular power cuts under labour in the home counties. Got no proof obvs. So no need to believe or not believe.

Ive also already said that the 3 day week was due to strikes organised by Labour supporting unions.

Well your last line sort of indicates that the things you have claimed are "lies" by the media may actually have some truth to them.

Luckily its all on record anyway. Apart from the Ukranian boys who set fire to Keir Starmer's car which has gone a bit quiet for some reason.

The reason it’s “gone quiet” is probably because their trial isn’t until April. What would there be to talk about?

What would there be to talk about. Hmm..

The alleged offences carried out by the rent boys relate to three fires including one at Starmer’s house in Kentish Town, and another involving a car previously owned by him but sold. A third fire was at a house also linked to Starmer.

Normally the press would be all over this for months. Interesting it's been kept fairly low key.

No but the Guardian/Independent are very critical of Starmer too. When the Observer is questioning how long he will be there you kind of know the writings on the wall.
