Would you recognise your MP/councillor if you passed him/her in the street?

At the last local election there was someone outside asking who I had voted for, I asked back who she was and she replied the local ward councillor...

MP yes shes been in here for years. Councillor the old one probably but we’ve not long got a new one and I haven’t a clue who she is

MP yes, met her as a councillor, supported her ever since and voted for her in the GE. Same (former) profession as me and she works her arse off in Parliament. Local councillors, no idea largely for the polar opposite reasons.

Yes, I think so. He's pretty young and a first-timer (Lib Dem - the previous incumbent was a Tory and had been hanging on for ages and I did recognise him, mostly because he went to a lot of local events and concerts, and also lived in the next village along...) but has been active since elected. He seems a good one.

The ex-MP I would really like NOT to recognise in the street, but have no choice because the bugger is seemingly everywhere round here these days, is a recently ex-PM... Grin Wish he'd just stay at home.

I've no idea who my councillor or MP is as we have MPs and MSPs and I get confused.

Yes, I’d recognise my MP. I actually saw him walking to the shops with his kids today.

I wouldn’t recognise any of my councillors.

Arlanymor · 10/01/2026 20:52

Local councillor - yes, he puts an update through my letterbox bimonthly
Local MP - yes, he was one of those helicoptered in from England by Keir Starmer because there was no one in Wales who could do the job apparently...
Local MS - yes, he's getting on a bit now though and drinks in my local!

I do pay a lot of attention to politics and think it's important to hold elected members to account. Also we have a big election coming this year...

I think that means you should be allowed a big cwtch of his Maine Coon kitty whenever you demand it.

The writetothem website is really handy to find out who your elected representatives are, including which are your regional MSP's and who is your constituency MSP, your local councillors and your MP - www.writetothem.com
