I know it’s a “thing” in the House of Commons, and absolutely done by all parties. But are these people incapable of listening without jeering, laughing, or cheering - 5 year olds in an assembly are better behaved.

Agreed. I would struggle to present at work if my colleagues did this during my presentations.

MannersAreAll · 26/11/2025 12:46

It'll be intersting to see the actual costings on the benefit cap - I don't think as many people will benefit from it as expected.

The financial cap is still in place so it'll only make a difference to people if there is a disability element in their claim.

I also think a lot of people will benefit surprised if/when they realise it isn't remotely related to Child benefit. That misunderstanding seemed rife.

CambridgeSingers · 26/11/2025 12:46

Does anyone really believe things are getting better? I’m listening to her waffle - all the signs to me are that we’re sliding into recession, and she’s escorting us with yet more tax rises..

OneBookTooMany · 26/11/2025 12:46

Her voice is very difficult to listen to: rasping, staccato and snappy all at the same time.

I can still invest in a pension and get tax benefit WITHOUT the need of a company salary sacrifice scheme. They are different.

Yes but surely more money going into pensions so that people fund their own retirement is better!
it's just taxation by the back door on working people which they said they wouldn't do.......

Coletilla · 26/11/2025 12:47

BIossomtoes · 26/11/2025 12:45

And we are by making contributions tax free.

Thanks @BIossomtoes I don’t understand why people can’t grasp this!

Cosywintervibes · 26/11/2025 12:47

My signal died.

Can't believe that leak. Cap shouldn't have been removed and don't understand the tax on pension savings surely we should all be saving for our old age to save the Government money.

She's just waffled on about wanting businesses to grow and employ in the UK and her answer to that - widening some enterprise scheme. Not cutting corporation tax and reversing the damaging employer NICs.

A smorgasbord indeed...

Wow what a start to the omni fuck up budget. Lower growth, lower employment, higher debt, more cash going to feckless parents.......

Why are they feckless parents, because they have the audacity to have more than one child?

How does this budget impact you exactly? Are you paying the mansion tax? Or income tax on property or dividends?

Yeap. The business reading of this is hunker down for difficult times. Stop recruiting, cut costs.

I don’t think anyone on this thread has said anything to suggest they don’t understand what salary sacrifice is. If people disagree with you, it’s not necessarily because they don’t grasp something.

If we didn't have the ridiculous cliff edges in our tax code, people wouldn't need to find loopholes like salary sacrifice.

ChristmasTimeChristmasJoy · 26/11/2025 12:50

Can’t hear her over all the shouting. We are fucked as a country. They had no business removing the 2 child cap. We are fucked!

It is a simple premise of life to me that people should only have children they can provide the resources to support. It is normally only the feckless who see popping out sprongs as a right rather than a responsibility.

People do salary sacrifice often to avoid paying into a higher tax threshold. This can allow them to keep benefits, all the while putting money away for THEIR pension. Big problem are existing tax cliff edges for high earners (that I think needs to be smoothed)

No people are just pissed off at all these little changes to taxation which hits either working people or employers in the pocket and then gets wasted.
Individuals would be less upset if they tackled the big issues but they don't.

Maybe because they have the audacity to have more than two children when expecting the taxpayer to support their choice.

I pay into my pension as a minimum wage worker because I want to save for my future.

im now going to be directly worse off each month because of these measures.

CambridgeSingers · 26/11/2025 12:51

Salary sacrifice affects 1/3 private sector pensions and…1/10 public sector pensions. The NI rise decreases pot size, raises NI tax for the govt, and unfairly affects dc pots where you have to put many more £ in, relative to public sector pensions.

3 more years…

Your better off not paying into it, and stuffing the money under your mattress

Exactly their interpretation of election pledge is getting narrower and narrower. One of their reps said this morning they they had only committed on the top line rates of the key taxes. Most of us can see through it, only the Reeves Fangirls can't.

I’m torn. I’m in the NHS pension scheme so the contributions from my employer are obviously massive, but I’ll be losing a huge amount of money now.

I've worked in financial services for 30+ years so know how DB and DC pensions work. I just disagree with your thoughts other than the cliff edge issue which I do believe needs to be smoothed.
