I know it’s a “thing” in the House of Commons, and absolutely done by all parties. But are these people incapable of listening without jeering, laughing, or cheering - 5 year olds in an assembly are better behaved.

Coletilla · 26/11/2025 12:39

Come on Madam Deputy Speaker, shut down the rabble. I don’t think Lindsay Hoyle would let this go

Taxing people saving in their pensions is bonkers. Making it less attractive to save for individuals future.

Come on. This is a tax dodge and always has been.

I’m cooked. I seem to recall someone belting out “Things Can Only Get Better” outside the gates of Downing Street as Sunak gave his speech in the rain. Not true for my family, I’m afraid—things are only getting worse for our bottom line.

What particularly is your disaster for you in the budget?

Bumblebee72 · 26/11/2025 12:40

Lets hope Reeves is on the opposition benches soon so she can't cause any more damage.

They should not be removing this cap.

Yes
Increase my taxes to pay for people who choose to have more than2 kids
This givt is a joke

yummyscummymummy01 · 26/11/2025 12:39

Come on. This is a tax dodge and always has been.

People can still get tax relief from savings into pension! Salary sacrifice is different.

Bumblebee72 · 26/11/2025 12:40

What about "I said I wouldn't need to raise taxes again" I lied through my teeth.

yummyscummymummy01 · 26/11/2025 12:39

Come on. This is a tax dodge and always has been.

It’s not a tax “dodge”, it was a deliberate incentive in order to encourage behaviour (saving for a pension) that the gov wanted to encourage. It’s not a loophole, it’s a feature.

OneBookTooMany · 26/11/2025 12:41

What a brass neck she has!

No, we want people to take responsibility for funding their retirement and so there should be incentives to do so. This just makes it less attractive so some individuals will make short term decisions as there is a reduced benefit to saving for the longer term.
It appeases lots of voters who assume people who invest in a pension are going to be living like millionaires when they retire.

No one wants to see children living in poverty but this isn't the way to stop that.

MannersAreAll · 26/11/2025 12:43

I don't think anyone's saying it's acceptable? And I suppose it takes the heat off the BBC for a day or two 😁

Lots of people seem to be finding it highly amusing.

There’s still the incentive of tax relief on pension contributions.

AutumnLeavesandKnittedJumpers · 26/11/2025 12:43

I’m raging about the benefit cap. That’s absolutely unacceptable

Yes, a good government should incentivise the behaviour they do want and disincentivise the behaviour they don't want.

So for example it would make sense that we would look to encourage people to save for their own old age so they are as financially self sufficient as possible and don't rely on the state. We should also discourage people from having more than two children when they're living in poverty and don't have the means to raise them without relying heavily on the state. Oh wait ...

But salary sacrifice isn’t available to everyone. Only if your employer sets up. Designed to save NI both for employee and employer.

Britians destiny is definitely a Reform Government. The sooner the better.

I can still invest in a pension and get tax benefit WITHOUT the need of a company salary sacrifice scheme. They are different.

We should. But Labour want pensioners dependent on the state pension. It keeps them undercontrol. To Labour voters if you plan for your future you are a moron.
