The US finances NATO.

The "peace" deal is a total surrender and demilitarisation of Ukraine leaving it unable to defend itself in future and also includes a ban on the rest of Europe helping them.

It's a disaster and will eventually, if it happens, lead to Putin taking back all the iron curtain countries, including invading a Nato and EU country at some point, which should trigger a Europe/Russia war.

We can't let Trump do this, we must defend Ukraine in defense of Europe's future.

The US finances NATO.

The us is the largest contributor but all members contribute to nato.

FunLeader · 22/11/2025 09:38

Iagree with imdunfer NATO must get behind Ukraine and give them all the support they can . show Trump where their loyalties are if the Ukrain give in now it will be an open door to putin to do exactly what he wants with no opposition

NATO doesn't have a standing army as such. So NATO can't be ordered to do anything without the agreement of whichever country's forces are going to be involved. European countries contributes more to Ukraine than the US although the US is still essential of course to Ukraine at the moment.

Without any one of the others NATO is fine. Without the US NATO is fucked.

At the moment that is true. Hopefully the rebalance will help with that.

Yes, they have all agreed to contribute more and usa hardly likely to pull out

Trump cares about two things, money and his ego, there is nothing obviously nice about this man, he expects the world to kiss his feet, he has no interest in Ukraine other than its mineral wealth and no interest in Europe, we can only be grateful that he only had three more years , but the harm he could do in that time is frightening

MissMoneyFairy · 23/11/2025 19:03

Who put Trump in charge, Ukraine is not in nato so they need agreement from all members surely, Trump apparently now saying Ukraine are ungrateful for his efforts.

TooBigForMyBoots · 23/11/2025 19:08

The only person who can tell Donald Trump what to do is Vladimir Putin.

NATO, Ukraine, Europe and the rest of the world are stuck with managing and working around him until the next election.🙄

You really couldn't think of a better title line for this than "Trump"?

We have no idea what NATO is telling Trump behind the scenes, but possibly something very much like that.

Teddleshon1 · 26/11/2025 22:36

Why doesn’t the EU sort it out instead of bitching about Trump.

Have you asked this on an EU site?
What was the response?

Teddleshon1 · 26/11/2025 23:18

@TooBigForMyBoots what is stopping the EU from either properly backing Ukraine or negotiating a settlement? Why does it have to be the US?

DuncinToffee · 26/11/2025 23:37

Why just the EU?

Teddleshon1 · 26/11/2025 23:44

@DuncinToffee Why not the EU as opposed to the USA? The EU is far more exposed to and at risk from the conflict than the USA will ever be.

ladsladzladse · 26/11/2025 23:48

Trump is all over the shop on Ukraine; wait a couple of days and Zelenskyy will be very nice again and Putin will be facing 150% tariffs. But it's not really up to NATO to say that Trump is right or wrong in Ukraine EXCEPT as the situation may impact NATO countries - and even then, probably only if the relevant country's leaders ask for NATO support. The USA's formal responsibility to Ukraine lies in the Budapest Memorandum; as such fellow signatories UK and France are best placed (along with Ukraine itself) to bring outside force to bear on the USA to uphold its responsibilities to protect Ukraine against Russian aggression. Recently, Starmer and Macron have made a visible effort to do so.

I'm in the UK, not the EU, so I can't answer your question. Also I'm not sure what you want them to do that they're not doing already.

Russia is at war with Ukraine and the rest of Europe, including the UK. Our governments are working together to combat it.

Donald Trump is not helping the situation. He can't. He's Putin's Puppet, working to isolate, divide and undermine America at home and abroad.

Bungle2168 · 27/11/2025 02:11

NATO is essentially the European arm of American foreign policy, which is why NATO countries cannot say boo to a goose without the nod from the POTUS.

Individual European countries can, but there is inertia to overcome, and as we know, building consensus can be tricky. However, the more hostile Trump becomes, the less the Europeans have to lose by distancing themself from the Americans. In this way, Trump’s behavior can be seen as a net benefit.

As for Trump himself, he is ideologically wedded to Putin and Xi - he sees them as his kind of people - which is why he is antipathetic towards America’s traditional allies.

In fact, Trump treats his allies like they are an eBay listing to be auctioned off to the highest bidder. Ukraine first, but I expect Taiwan will follow in due course, especially if Xi throws in yin and yang furry dice and a pair of panda cufflinks.

Teddleshon1 · 27/11/2025 07:28

@TooBigForMyBoots what would I like the EU to do? Either support Ukraine properly and effectively or negotiate a settlement.

DuncinToffee · 27/11/2025 08:31

Teddleshon1 · 26/11/2025 23:44

@DuncinToffee Why not the EU as opposed to the USA? The EU is far more exposed to and at risk from the conflict than the USA will ever be.

What about countries outside of the EU?

The UK for example?

The US borders with Russia, don't you think they are exposed at all then?
