I admit I don't know much about it, but I find it creepy.

Do you think it's in reaction to the immigrant problem, or what?

The question we should be asking is what will it achieve?

I cannot see the point of them when we already have passports, driving licenses and NI numbers.

They are necessary for CBDCs, which in turn are necessary for social credit scoring.

And I, and many others, do not want either.

It’s a good question. The government has already provided me with a Government Gateway ID, a UTR (a unique Tax Reference), a NI number, a Passport number, an NHS number, a National Savings number, a council tax reference number and Driving licence number.

All other organisations are happy with a passport and / or driving license, and occasionally a utility bill. If the government can’t do what it wants with the information they already have under all of those, how’s a digital ID going to improve things for me?

And why can’t that pp get one if they need it rather than a whole system most people don’t want.

It’s impossible to survive in modern society without photo id. You even need it to pick up a parcel!

Because I can use it straightaway when asked instead of waiting till institutions decide what they will accept instead. I’m a charity trustee and just been asked for it as we want amend our bank details with a service supplier. It never used to be a problem till recently, usually a birth certificate and proof of address would suffice. I don’t travel abroad and will have to apply for a new driving licence when I’m 70 in 3 years so don’t see why I should have to do it twice.

Which courier is that?

isthesolution · 17/10/2025 11:59

Great idea if they could be certain the information was safe. The problem is …. They can’t!

The system will cost a bloody fortune and then be a huge target for hackers.

It’s not, it’s in store pick up at Waitrose, Superdrug and TK Maxx, also at our local Evri pick up.

The new digital armed forces veteran card seems to have been released at an opportune time.

Let's get the old folks that we owe a debt of gratitude to invested in the digital ID system, then it would seem churlish for the rest of us to whinge.

Or was there another reason for the timing?
(they can choose digital or card for now)
