American civil war

Just read about the shooting in Dallas yesterday at the ICE building.
The country seems to be descending into more and more violence as each day passes.
Soldiers on the streets of democrat controlled cities, protests, assassinations.
People scoffed at the idea of civil war but I think it is well on the way.
This is the poisoned fruit of polarisation, populism and of a dictatorship hiding in plain sight.

um, you do realise that News reports focus on unusual events not the ordinary?
Most Americans are living their ordinary lives peacefully, getting along ok with neighbours and strangers, and expect to continue so.
If ppl avoid or carefully curate social media/news they wouldn't know about most the runctions you're focused on.

ps: More or Less (R4 version I think) did an episode recently about political violence in USA and the 60s was the huge decade for violent politics-linked events. Civil war was avoided then, too.

Elon Musk has been pushing for civil war for quite some time now. The number of times he has mentioned civil war over the past few years is wild. He seems to be angling for the west ( not just America but Europe too) into civil war. Chaos benefits the far right. In the US, violence justifies authoritarian crackdowns. In Europe, fear boosts far-right parties.
Musk wants them to win—everywhere
Have you seen what the FBI/ Kash Patel released regarding the bullets in the ICE shooting? Bullet casings with “ANTI ICE” scrawled on them. No one who is insane enough to go out and shoot at people is likely to use this type of language. Leftists say “F*ck ICE” and “Abolish ICE.” Those are the slogans. They don’t say “ANTI ICE.” That’s something a right winger would think a leftist says. How convenient, too that the shooter exclusively kills and injures migrants but he was anti ICE. I trust Kash Patel as much I trust I’d trust Epstein to babysit my kids.
In the wake of Kirk’s assassination the right did not attempt to calm tensions, they exploited them to their own ends. They amplified claims of left-wing violence before knowing the motive, and pushed the idea that civil war is inevitable. Framing it as a scenario that one must fight (the left) or die.

What happens in America is out of our control, certainly there is an increase in political violence.

I think as European we need to be paying attention to Trumps regime. It's now becoming increasingly evident that the Americans are becoming increasingly hostile.

We are making the same mistake with Trump as we did with Putin. Our trade connections, our military and political ties make us perfect targets for interference.

We must start to re-evaluate our relationship and begin to treat the current Trump regime with extreme suspicion.

I strongly believe that we may well be on a military collision course with America

It might come to it, depending on whether the US sees free and fair elections again (I'm doubtful), but the "side" in power are the side with most of the firearms so I think its more likely that the country descends into an authoritarian, one party state, with relatively isolated violent resistance.

I think we should be making real preparations for a time when America may not be an ally. At the moment we are using more and more American military tech when we should be looking at other suppliers.

Uggbootsforever · 26/09/2025 21:59

I think it’s possible. Not likely, but very possible. It won’t happen while Trump is in power but God help us if Vance loses to the Democrats. The MAGA lot are frankly demented (I have no issues with Republicans, just MAGA) and seem to desperately want the country to be a confusing mixture of Gilead and Dubai.

I find that it's mostly Trumpers talking about a civil war. In fact, they seem to be eagerly slavering for it.

Well they need to justify those guns somehow. The death toll from school shootings will soon exceed the anticipated casualties of actual civil war.

I think Trump wants violence because it justification for sending troops into those areas he's set to lose mid terms to the democrats. American people want stability and the majority are living normal lives. Which is why Trumps popularity is taking a nose dive.

Which is why I believe Trump is doing exactly what he's doing and it's why I believe Trump is rigging the election right now. He's building the scaffolding to make elections that favour him. This is exactly what Putin did.....he won an election and dismantled government so now elections are held where there's never going to be another winner.

Europeans need to prepare for that position and we should be building our military, our space programmes, our big tech, our satellites. We can't simply accept that American tech is our only option.

A good example is China, America banning Chinese tech and imposing tarriifs hasn't forced the Chinese to roll over and accept the status quo. I was in China last Christmas and it's amazing how independent they are.

The American people will have to decide their future but the idea of a civil war in my opinion is unlikely. The security forces are simply too organised, well equipped and intertwined in society.

I agree Dwordle

I also have my own views on what is driving this ‘left wing violence’ in the States, and I’ll leave it there.

I can honestly see an ‘annual purge’ happening there within the next 30 years or so
