Ban El-Al like we've banned Aeroflot ?

Should the UK government follow through with its disapproval of Israel's actions by taking away El-Al's landing slots. Boris Johnson did that to Aeroflot.

Or should we wait until Israel's actions become even more unacceptable, before we do that ?

I doubt they can. Landing slots are governed by contracts between the airport (private businesses) and the airlines (private businesses). Just vote with your £ and don't use El Al.

Is it just Jewish Airlines you want to ban as it seems perfectly acceptable to be racist to Jews nowadays?

Or are you looking to ban airlines From. Muslim countries or hindu countries?

No thought not. You just crack on with your anti semitic rhetoric.

Well unless you were going to Israel it is unlikely you would be using El Al from the UK

El Al isn’t a Jewish airline - it’s an Israeli airline.

Seems to me that there's no comparison, both with the quality of the airline and the political situation.

WhineAndWine1 · 31/05/2025 08:30

@Growlybear83 if point that out then there would be no reason for the poster to claim it’s anti semitic 🙄

@MsAmerica There is a valid comparison. Russia is engaged in brutal and inhumane actions and as a mark of our disapproval, we apply sanctions.
The government have made clear their disapproval of Israel's actions, but seem to find it far more difficult to follow up their words with deeds.

Thanks for the "Jewish Airline" comment, it made me chuckle.

and Good Shabbos to anyone else who might be on here today.....

No, there is no comparison. Russia is a long-time aggressor, indisputably the bully in the region, already having triggered smaller wars to increase its territory, now having murderous attacked Ukraine, which was innocent in this conflict. Israel is a small country surrounded by enemies that want to wipe if off the earth, and although Israel has sometimes increased its territory, it has usually happened as a reaction to an attack by others. No matter how brutal Israel is currently, it's crucial to remember that it was triggered by a murderous attack on peaceful civilians, after decades of smaller attacks targeting civilians, from a region that chose to be ruled by terrorists, who have been funneling their funds not to help their own people but to wage undeclared war.

And Aeroflot is not considered a good airline, whereas El Al is.

By the way, how did you shoe-horn two quotes into your post.

Sorry, no, not a valid comparison.

Aeroflot has a long history of being a sub-par airline from a country with a long history of being an authoritarian opponent of the west.
El Al has a substantial history of being a pretty good airline from a country that, for most of its existence, has had a semblance of democracy and has often been allied with the west. True, Israel is having a bad lapse at the moment after having suffered a horrific attack, but that changes nothing.

notimagain · 11/09/2025 08:11

For info the EU aviation sanctions involved much more than just stopping Aeroflot operating into Europe and the UK, they banned UK/EU operators from overflight of Russia..which, until the ban, was a big money earner for Moscow (countries charge big sums for overflight rights and provision of Air traffic services).

Problem was the Chinese carriers carried on operating as normal, coining it in andAeroflot got effectively bailed out/protected since Russia will pay anything in in quest for Ukraine. The big losers financialy have been UK/European carriers who have to route the long way round to places like Japan.

By comparison banning El Al from the Uk only would probably mean them losing the grand total of two return flights a day..and UK passengers travelling to/from Israel would simply connect in somewhere like Paris or Frankfurt.

Now such sanctions might give some activists a warm feeling but it"s performative. There's also the question about whether such action is proportionate and sensible a against a country that is not threatening the west or it's allies.

No Ell-Al is a very safe airline. It would be stupidly to ban it
