lol - Tory policies and inherited from the Tories. Buh bye - don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out.

Yes agreed. The Tories are rubbish too.

Although TBF I don't believe Jeremy Hunt made the trusts taxation retrospective...that (which is what RR added all by herself) is what had done the damage.

Weren't people criticising labour because under the Tories the economy grew 0.9% or similar. It grew by 0.7% in the first part of this year.

@GlobeTrotter2000 thanks, I was curious. I knew a few people who moved there but came back in the mid 00s, probably very different now.

I don’t know the latest but the Indian Government was floating the idea of worldwide taxes on non resident Indians, like the US. They are losing too many to Dubai. Maybe people should have to pay to keep their British citizenship too? Like the US.

The effect of the damage RR has done has not yet been felt. Eg ENI.

We will have to see, I think it's far too soon to tell.

Well I'm hoping it improves. I'd rather my kids didn't emigrate really!

@Araminta1003 there is a growing global movement about taxing the 1%. I do think things will change.

Araminta1003 · 19/05/2025 18:55

I think it has to change because they have so much power and are interfering politically and above the law and just go live in a tax haven, but retain their citizenship rights to safe countries. On that aspect, the US has it right. You want to be a US citizen and vote and have a right to vote and stand to be President, you pays your taxes.

footpath · 19/05/2025 19:03

I agree with you re the US.

GlobeTrotter2000 · 19/05/2025 21:29

@Araminta1003
@footpath

I don’t think it will be long before the UK applies a similar approach to Australia and US regards citizenship and taxation.

The downside is that it will make it more difficult for less developed countries to attract the skills needed to develop infrastructure and energy. For countries like; Saudi Arabia (strict religion) and dangerous countries involved in war, lower taxes, or none at all, is often the only way to tempt people.

The upside is that it may result in less of a brain drain from countries who have gone to the expense of educating and training their citizens?
