Is anyone else seeing social media eg film clips which are thinly disguised propaganda? I just saw one on Facebook. It was about a squirrel and its behaviour this morning on a so called David Attenborough Fan page which was chock full of hardly hidden messages about how society should be run. Apparently the female squirrel is unique in welcoming her husband home when he return with food, full of kisses and affection as reward for his efforts. We should be more like them, we are told. Mumsnet full of it , too, although sometimes it’s harder to spot.

We’re in trouble as a society. Trump wasn’t slow to drag in the tech bros who control all this. There’s going to be more and more of it, until we don’t know who we are any more.

Culture war has been waging strong on social media since before 2016. Social media is full of bots sowing division across one topic or another. Advancement in AI has made that easier.

It would make sense to me that fueling a general population to be fixated on Men V Women, Left V Right, GC V Trans rights, Feminism vs "Trad" Values; Immigration etc. whips people into a state of simultaneous fear and apathy. To distract from what, I don't know - rampant inequality? The need to restructure an oil based economy in order to meaningfully combat climate change? Or simply a power grab by the super wealthy.

There’s certainly rampant inequality, I agree. In some cases it’s to promote it, rather than distract from it.

I generally won't watch online videos. I wish you'd mentioned where you saw it. Maybe the problem is that you're not checking the source.
