Trump tweet

I don't really know what to believe. Has Donald Trump really tweeted a photo of himself dressed as a pope? I am thinking this must be fake. But I'm not sure. Surely no world leader would do that? How is he allowed to run a country?

You are aware you are talking about Americans?

FrenchFancie · 03/05/2025 15:03

Yes he has. It was on ‘truth social’ not Twitter / x/ whatever but yes.

i genuinely have no clue what goes through that man’s head.

i mean, I’m not even catholic and I find it offensive!!

Radiatorvalves · 03/05/2025 16:10

It’s repugnant - but to me everything about Trump is repugnant. The more interesting question is why Americans, especially those that profess to be Christian, are not utterly disgusted by this.

A lot of maga Christians will be anti-Catholic though.

It seems Elon must have fired the entire PR and Comms department. That must surely be the only explanation for this. I am just gobsmacked.

MrsBennetsPoorNerves · 03/05/2025 16:14

I'm genuinely sorry for those who feel offended by this. It's wildly inappropriate, of course.

But I'm not Catholic and I can't help but find it funny, personally. He has such a bizarrely inflated opinion of his own worth and importance. And in the grand scheme of things, this is one of the least harmful things that he has tweeted.

It is both ridiculous and terrifying in equal measure to think that this is one of the most powerful men in the world. How on earth was this ever allowed to happen?

WinterMorn · 03/05/2025 16:21

It’s not remotely funny. Saying it is allows him to get away with more and more outlandish behaviour under the auspices of it being a ‘joke’.

ChimneyPot · 03/05/2025 16:25

I wonder how the 6 catholic Supreme Court judges feel about it.

He is going to have a lot of cases in front of them over the next while.

Overtheatlantic · 03/05/2025 16:27

The thing with people like him is that they keep pushing and one day they will push too far and that will be the end of them. None of us knows when it will be but one day he will poke the wrong bear.

InMyOpenOnion · 03/05/2025 17:35

I simply cannot imagine what went through his mind. "The head of the Catholic Church has just died. I know, how about I, the president of one of the world's most prominent nations, dress up like him and post that for all to see? Yes, that sounds like an entirely appropriate course of action" 🙄

MagicPharmacist · 03/05/2025 18:47

I just saw this on Twitter and assumed it was a fake account!

TalkToTheHand123 · 03/05/2025 18:59

He wants to be worshipped by more people with an easier schedule. Nothing wrong with that. He should be eligible and not discriminated against.

The official White House profile has also posted it on X…

SpidersAreShitheads · 03/05/2025 19:27

A few days back I posted a meme about Trump saying he’d declared himself as the new Pope. I put up a jokey comment along the lines of “just for clarity, this is just a joke, because you never know with the mad shit that Trump does”.

And then Trump does this.

He’s become a literal parody of himself.

WaIt for it though “the woke left don’t have a sense of humour”.

Fucking hell.

MananaPenelope · 03/05/2025 19:31

Unbelievable, I also find it offensive, not catholic. But then I find Trump pretty repugnant.

lljkk · 03/05/2025 19:35

People would dress up as the pope for a costume party.

Probably a bad joke along those lines, part of his Emperor type ambitions.
Usually Trump styles himself as king not pope, though. So odd one.

HaroldMeaker · 03/05/2025 19:36

It is shocking. This is the American president using some shit ai image of himself as the fucking pope! Just after the much beloved Pope Francis passed away less than two weeks ago. I’m far from catholic myself but it is deeply offensive and concerning.

Eccythumpy · 03/05/2025 19:39

Im Catholic. Trump is batshit crazy. Its like a front row seat inside the mind of a narcissist.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/05/2025 19:47

From that article:

^Meanwhile, in addition to renaming Veterans Day, Trump has said he wants to name VE Day on 8 May as "Victory Day for World War II". ... The days mark the end of World War I in 1918 and Germany's surrender to the allies in 1945, respectively. In his late-night post, Trump said that "many of our allies and friends are celebrating May 8th as Victory Day, but we did more than any other country, by far, in producing a victorious result" in the Second World War.
"We won both wars, nobody was close to us in terms of strength, bravery or military brilliance, but we never celebrate anything," he added. "That's because we don't have leaders anymore, that know how to do so! So we are going to start celebrating our victories again!"^

Outright lies about doing more than any other country, no matter what measure you use. Yes, the entry of the US into WW2 was decisive. The other huge factor in the Allies' victory was Hitler invading the USSR and Stalin bringing the USSR into the war on the side of the allies. Russian casualties were on an unimaginable scale. Ours were huge and we lost a greater percentage of our population than the US did. We also suffered the Blitz, the thread of invasion, blackouts, rationing, large-scale evacuation of children, etc etc, which the USA did not. The man is deranged.

Circularmadness · 03/05/2025 21:25

The White House account tweets are really vile. Puerile, goading and taunting, really cringey. Beneath the office, but then it’s Trumps administration and all standards of decency have been abandoned

As far as I know, the claim is that that someone else created the image, and Trump just re-tweeted it. That may be a lie. But he claimed to be amused, and he probably loves the idea of both the pomp, the honor, and having absolutely authority. And then he claimed that Catholics weren't offended, which also seems to be a lie.

It occurs to me that the reaction might have been totally different if the image had been created by a left-wing pundit and been posted on, say, Reddit to mock Trump.

People don't seem to have a sense of humour these days. They were in the process of selecting a new one.

Haha, and he fits the bill perfectly!

TalkToTheHand123 · 14/05/2025 10:38

He'd do less damage to the world. Makes speeches and waves to people. Could be worse!
