Has he really done a nazi salute in the trump inauguration celebration? 🤦🏻‍♀️

@devastatedagain if only it were Russian bots, the sheer idiocy would then be excusable.

This thread is so bonkers. He was clearly touching his heart and throwing it and he then said he was throwing his heart out there.
he is awkward and has autism.
he is not a politician.
he is a genius and is massively generous to charities.
he has recently visited auchwitz
seriously what are you all on.

Strange that he managed to throw his heart out there.....in a very pronounced nazi salute.

Surely you would sweep both arms out to the crowd.

I've never stuck one arm out dead straight for any loving gesture. And he does it twice

Applecharm25 · 20/01/2025 23:59

What's different between the pictures?

They look very similiar to me

I was just off looking at more photos! The actual Nazi salute was very definitely extended in front of the body. I found this nice picture of some German women photographed from the front for better comparison to Musk's sideways arm-stretch.

However ... the photo with the fur coats was taken in America, where, despite being keen "Friends of New Germany", they don't seem at all sure of how to do the salute. They're all over the place!

Musk is, of course, an American nowadays. I still don't believe he was doing a salute at all, but I'll have to grant that he might just be fucking useless at saluting.

I've just watched it, twice (so four salutes). It isn't a Nazi salute. Much as I dislike the narcissistic nerd, that was some ridiculous gesture meant to look heartfelt. It wasn't a salute of any kind.

The Nazi salute extended the arm in front of the body, ideally at 45°, never to the side. It was not preceded by a clutch of the chest.

Labelling any old arm extension a 'Nazi salute' just makes you look absurd. That said, I imagine President Wotsit's fans will adopt it, because they are absurd and will think it's some right-wing symbol.

Anders Behring Breivik 'clutched his chest' before giving a salute when he was on trial.

There's not an actual style guide that right-wing fuck-nuts consult before throwing up this revolting gesture.

Have a quiet word with yourself.

He massively supports the far-right AfD party, a party with strong Neo-Nazi links in Germany and is trying to get them elected. What do you say to that?

Applecharm25 · 21/01/2025 00:17

Yeah we can't blame everything on autism.

My brother is autistic and would never do a nazi salute. He's not an asshole

OhMargaret · 21/01/2025 00:17

There is a whole subculture around this in Silicon Valley.

Linking Curtis Yarvin, who was one of the instigators:

He looks like a Nazi David Brent.

Musks photo still looks like a nazi salute to me.

Like the comparison photos are just making me more convinced

As someone Said, if it wasn't a nazi salute why has it now been edited out of his speech?

How many were in the crowd when you spoke at a presidential inauguration and did you remember to use both arms so that the media couldn’t use it to drum up faux outrage for clicks?

crumblingschools · 21/01/2025 00:20

@Tekbrobillionaire but even if you were only using one arm, you would sweep your arm round so you are pointing to all the crowd, not stick your arm out at that angle

Over40Overdating · 21/01/2025 00:21

Aw the little Elon bots with money in their user names are hard at work excusing the heart touching, autistic, arm waving, perfectly normal man who has EDITED THE SALUTE OUT OF FOOTAGE HE HAS SHARED from the mean and nasty accusations of people with eyes and sense enough to call a Nazi a Nazi.

History is repeating itself but to those who voted for this man by proxy, who are excusing him, who are thrilling that this is acceptable now, look at how this ended last time. And you’ll be held as culpable in the end as the rest of the foot soldiers.

The one thing to be grateful for is how excited this lot of goons are to show their true colours and giving the gig up a lot sooner.

ItsProperlyColdOut · 21/01/2025 00:23

The man is a phenomenally rich businessman. If he has enough judgement to get that right, then he has enough to avoid doing a nazi salute on global tv.

CheekyHobson · 21/01/2025 00:23

so that the media couldn’t use it to drum up faux outrage for clicks

I think the outrage at this totalitarian oligarch openly embracing the political beliefs he has been more quietly signalling for ages is completely genuine.

He visited a Nazi concentration camp with Ben Shapero last year and also supported the H-1B visa programme to hire workers from abroad and so I do not see evidence of racism, I think that this not a Nazi salute, I don't like Musk but I think it was not meant to be that.

https://www.google.com/search?q=auchwitz+shap

Musk and Ramaswamy are sparking a debate over the H-1B visa

Didn’t he visit Auschwitz after saying that Jewish people push hatred against white people was the truth on Twitter? A whole load of big advertisers paused their advertising and he had to backtrack swiftly to get them to put money back in. Which included this PR trip to Auschwitz.

It does seem a little careless to accidentally make that claim, and to support AfD and to accidentally make a Nazi salute twice.

Musk for president 2028?

Edited

Maybe because it wasn’t an intentional Nazi salute- it was just a weird gesture and he doesn’t want it shown because he doesn’t want to be associated with Nazism ?

BettyBardMacDonald · 21/01/2025 00:27

Come on, Musk defenders. Own it.
This is far from the first time trump has been bolstered, cheered and supported by nazis and white supremecists.

Own it.

They couldn't drum up faux outrage if he didn't do it! He did.

Even trump as bad as he is, managed not to give a nazi salute.

FagsMagsandBags · 21/01/2025 00:28

I avoided all of this today because I find Trump so unbearable to the extent that even hearing his voice makes me a bit angry. I caught the tiniest bit before managing to turn over when Newsnight came on and Trump looked frankly deranged. Preamble over. Anyway, read this thread and thought I'd go and have a look because surely it couldn't be that ba ... oh sweet mother of god he did a Nazi salute not once but twice! I mean there's absolutely no denying what we all looked at and you're all right, that was intentional, it wasn't a gaffe. It was f-ing scary is what it was.

Applecharm25 · 21/01/2025 00:29

TriesNotToBeCynical · 21/01/2025 00:25

Musk for president 2028?

He can't be as he wasn't born in the US.

Though trump could change the rules

But mush has said he doesn't want to be either

BettyBardMacDonald · 21/01/2025 00:29

Applecharm25 · 21/01/2025 00:05

Fuckin nazis are back

Yep.

Do some research on Stephen Miller, trump's right hand man. Even his own family disavows him. Sociopath.

None of these descriptions preclude him from being a very dangerous ideologue with already-evidenced far right sympathies. After all, a lot of the Nazis gave to charities, were nice to their families, kept the trains running on time, etc.
He is one of the richest men on the planet who is at the moment in step with the most powerful man on the planet. The fact that he has ‘visited Auschwitz’ should do nothing to make us think it is ok to look the other way.
