How can any Donald Trump fans think that he is intelligent?

Donald Trump has just done a big speech to Am fest turning point. He literally said that drugs are bad like fentanyl they ruin your face. They ruin your looks. They ruin your teeth and nobody has said that before and we are going to tell people that drugs are bad.
So basically, just like the just say no campaign that was there back in the day and of course people have as there’s literally pictures of people all over the Internet and every government has said this. This is what I mean. I want to know how people can think he’s so bloody original and intelligent saying stuff which is stupid because it’s already been said before.
The next thing he said at that speech how vaccines were linked to autism which we know full well that’s debunked then how he says how now it was like one in so many thousand people that had autism now it’s one in 36 but causation and correlation doesn’t mean to say that that’s to do with a bloody vaccines .
so yes I want to know how any Donald Trump fans can listen to any of this and think wow he’s so intelligent when he really isn’t?

posted too soon.

I don’t know if 10 years in prison is too short for the crime he committed.

But I do believe the BBC should be focussing on the ridiculously short sentences and 60% reductions given to criminals in the UK. Hugh Edwards being a prime example. Viewing child sex abuse imagery has become just a slap on the wrist.

https://www.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-commentary/silk-road-ross-ulbricht-undeserved-life-sentence-prison-1235013443/

An alternative view on the harsh sentence of Ulbricht. Double life plus 40 years with no possibility of parole.

Many other papers show the details with many views. The bbc doesn’t seem keen on Trump so it’s worth reading an alternative view.

I'm even less keen on Trump than the BBC as I don't have to pretend to be even-handed. The man's repulsive and dangerous and a liar and a criminal. But I rate Rolling Stone's journalism highly, particularly in this moment, so I'll read this a bit later when I have time. Thank you for posting it.

Yes, I was going to say this. I'd say it's unbelievable, but nothing is unbelievable with him.

Yes indeed, the Pardon Power seems to be open to misuse. Do you have the same energy for all the pardons given out my Biden as he exited? Especially given we all know he mentally left the building years ago. Who exactly is deciding who gets a pardon? 8064 over his tenure is the figure I am seeing? Happy to be corrected on that.

The BBC is responsible for prison sentences now? This thread is shameful, the levels of ignorance - that means lack of knowledge, nothing worse - is astonishing. And thanks for the lecture, earlier pp, you have displayed your impressive comprehension skills very clearly.

In your opinion... 😉

Hard agree.

You want to look at the Sentencing Council. It's their guidelines that mandate these low levels for the judiciary.

I agree that the sentences are too short on matters of viewing child abuse. It should be custody given.

A large proportion of Biden's pardons were to non-violent drug offenders (mainly non-white) languishing and taking up prison space (at the time of their sentencing the guidelines were for longer sentences than those crimes would get today, most of them had already served the time they would be given for the same crimes) that could be used to house violent criminals.

That said, I'm not a particular fan of presidents having unlimited pardon power.

Especially given we all know he mentally left the building years ago.

Hmmm. Since you seem to think Trump 'has more going on upstairs' than Biden or Harris, I think I'll feel free to disregard your opinion there.

Well he so clearly does but yes, it is my opinion only and you know what they say about those 😊

Ive gone off topic but I think the BBC and the British media should be challenging why our sentencing is so lenient. They are not responsible for sentencing but they should question and challenge and highlight failures of our judiciary system. Do people think a slap on the wrist for viewing child abuse is correct?

When did watching a child be abused become punished by a slap on the wrist? Who changed it and why? Why do rapists and rape gangs get away with short sentences? (Or not punished and covered up). The media should be exploring the poor sentences as this is in the public interest to protect our young people.

In light of the rape gangs I am highly suspicious as to why sentencing is so slack in the U.K. Do you know who is/was on the sentencing council? Were we always this lenient on child abuse? If not when was it changed and by whom? If anyone has links I would appreciate them.

Bondi wanting to find Americas 300,000 missing children is something I am onboard with and I am interested in seeing how they sentence those involved with molesting, abusing and raping minors. I will do my best to follow this. I hope she gets answers and is tough on the criminals.

Bidon apparently pardoned his family, Fauci and others who apparently hadn’t committed any crimes. I don’t imagine that’s normal for an outgoing president.

The basic standard of education in the U.S. is pretty low.

dottiehens · 22/01/2025 13:36

Why do you care if people find him intelligent? I personally haven’t heard anyone saying he is. People are different and I for example couldn’t see how people thought Kamala was up to the job just because of her race and gender. I find that not very intelligent.

The Sentencing Council is a publicly accountable body. They set the guidelines for all sentences. The judiciary must adhere to them by law, unless there are exceptional reasons not to.

It's not the fault of the BBC or media that the Sentencing Council grade crimes as they do. That decision belongs to the Council.

Sentencing law is complex. But it can be changed.

Atissues · 22/01/2025 20:02

I know the BBC and media cannot set sentencing guidelines however they can highlight and challenge poor sentencing by highlighting issues to the public or making documentaries on the issue. I said ‘They are not responsible for sentencing but they should question and challenge…’.

Sorry op - I have digressed from your original topic but A quick google came up with this on U.K. sentencing.

https://www.sentencingcouncil.org.uk/offences/magistrates-court/item/possession-of-indecent-photograph-of-child/

The above states guidelines effective 1st April 2014 - it would be interesting to know if previous guidelines were tougher. Any links appreciated.

Sentencing council reports as not everyone is keen on the Daily Mail. However if the Daily Mail is the only paper that reports online it’s rather limiting. Others may have reported in 2013 but it may not be online.

As an American who grew up in one of those ass backwards red states and knows many people on both sides, I'm simply speaking truth as I know it. The people who support trump are the same morons who talked about injecting bleach instead of getting vaccinated during covid, while the people who see him for the vile piece of shit that he is went to university, are successful and educated and understand that immigrants aren't to blame for other people's shitty circumstances but rather their own lack of any ambition and drive. Let's also not forget we have all seen the group of dipshits he associates with, pedophiles, rapists, q'anon idiots, anti vaxxers, I could go on.

Trump is a moron and the people who voted for him will soon see just how bad it can get for them. Because anybody who believes a billionaire born with a silver spoon in his mouth has the best interests of the "people" in mind deserves to get fucked, hard, and they will.

If I had injected bleach instead of the Astra Zeneca poison my health might be lot better.
