What drugs have devastated the USA?
Opiods.
Which don't seem to be covered in this.

In "this" what? Did you intend to post a link?

Trump is sincere in being anti-drug, but of course his solution is to be directed by his xenophobia and generally flamboyant viciousness.

The real question should be, if America likes to imagine itself the greatest country, why does it have the highest drug use in the first place?

You're right, it's a badly- worded op.
And, yes, I agree with your post.
It just seems to me that the War on Drugs won't address half the problem.

Well, first of all, keep in mind that the U.S. has never won any of these supposed "War On..." Like the War On Poverty.

The opioid "crisis" is interesting because it doesn't seem to hit the usual people. These seem largely to be the "deaths of despair.

Yeah, the US has spent trillions of dollars on the War On Poverty and that social issue is still here.

I heard something that fascinated me and stuck with me from a television documentary on Senator Patrick Moynihan, who had been working on that during the administration of President Lyndon Johnson, I think. The general idea had been that you "cure" poverty by providing money, and I was dumbstruck by Moynihan's take that instead they should provide jobs. So simple. But I could see that when your thinking is in a rut, it's hard to see other alternatives.
