Doubtless the first of many.

What a shower this Labour Government is turning out to be!

Is she lining herself up for the Head of Civil Service role?

And yes, I’m delighted that Labour are in a tailspin.
They’ve declared hostilities on many of us, including the old, private school kids and their parents, the tax payer, the BTL sector - I could go on.

Anything that stymies them, anything that results in rebellion, in them losing by-elections, in the media flaying them, in the markets punishing them, in them being forced to water down some of their more vicious policies, I’m fucking ecstatic.

Hmmm…so ‘flaying’, ‘punishing’ and ‘vicious’ but you’re not partisan, only those disagreeing with you?

CassieMaddox · 06/10/2024 16:24

When I last listened to Electoral Dysfunction the view on there was some SPAD was on a mission to get rid of Sue Gray because of how difficult it is for a certain type of man to tolerate having a woman 1) in charge and 2) earning more.

I think she's been forced out, not sure whether by "Labour infighting" or Boris' gang of muckspreaders in the media reporting on every single thing she does.

Labour had over a decade to prepare for government, but after less than 100 days Keir Starmer has been forced to sack his own Chief of Staff.

Is this the stability Labour promised?

Showing your bias there op she wasn't sacked!!
Tbh she'd become part of the "story" she's got the sense to get out of the way - unlike a certain barnard castle visitor - maybe there is still some integrity in the government machine after all.
And no I'm not a Labour voter!!

I’m not sure I can be any clearer but, for context, I was highly critical of the previous Tory Government.

For some posters on here, Labour can do no wrong - even in the face of irrefutable proof otherwise.

  1. Has she got a promotion?
  2. Has she got a payrise?
  3. What opposition? I've barely seen mention of the tories other than them squabbling over who wants to be the new meanie leader.
Noname99 · 06/10/2024 17:42

Its actually quite frightening the delusion that Labour Party member / supporters are willing to espouse because the cult doesn’t allow ANY form of even the mildest criticism.

Scrap the WFA - suddenly all pensioners are multi millionaires all living in 5 bedroom houses and “don’t really need it.” Point out that’s bollocks and that the vast majority are living on the state pension which is a couple of pounds above the limit of the cut off and that Labour themselves published an impact report that said that thousands of pensioners will die and it’s “difficult choices due to previous govt handing over a dire economic legacy” which is exactly what they’ve spent the last 14 years arguing against and claiming it was evil Tories enforcing unnecessary austerity?!

Starmer, Reeves, Raynor et al all get caught taking freebies and handing out a free pass into Downing Street for their major donor but suddenly that ok, it’s expensive being PM - he needs thousand pound glasses/suits/taylor swift tickets on his 150K salary and there is nothing wrong with accepting multiple gifts from the premier league football Association who are desperately trying to persuade the govt not to follow through on the anti corruption recommendations that include an independent regulator but that’s ok because Starmer is a special case? So special that unlike Sunak and Prince William, his security can’t protect him in the stands so he can watch his favourite football team…he needs a private box! But it’s ok…he paid for a season ticket (@2K for the season) he’s paid for the 20K PER GAME box according to Labour supporters. And his child needed a 20K luxury apartment because his GCSE can’t be disrupted and he has no friends, family or means to pay for that himself poor guy so it has to be a donation.

Their own team has one faction doesn’t like the other so they leak Sue G salary to the press and try to destabilize to the point that the other faction’s man is lined up to replace her and she gets moved but NO that all not the case, the change is planned and nothing to see here. Starmer just changed his mind within 3 months

The flagship policy of VAT on private school fees is so badly planned that HMRC can’t implement it in the time frames and their own figures for how much this will raise (& what it will pay for - it started as 6,500 teachers but now it’s paying for Ofsted reforms) are changing by the day along with the non dom change where HMRC have figures that show that the changes will cost more than they gain but apparently that evil civil servants that are secret Tories and / or the right wing press (which i suspect the guardian who have led on a lot of these stories will be surprised to hear!)

but no …. Labour supporters will just stick their fingers in their ears and shout “but the Tories”

It’s utterly insane the lengths they will go and their utter inability to hold their party to account so we will get the govt we deserve. The one with the lowest actual votes ever (another thing Labour supporters spent their whole time in opposition pointing out the % of voters who actually voted the Tories) but apparently as their figure is even lower, it now doesn’t count.
It would be funny if it wasn’t so dangerous.

Are you having a fucking laugh the condervatives declared war on the disabled abd the sick and those that were foreign etc plus all tye culture war bullshit. So basically because labours policy affects you you are now pissed off. You didn't give a dhit about austerity that had caused the uk to bloody well crumble. If the cons bad looked after our money better by helping this country in stead of stripping it down for parts then labour wouldn't need to find money to help.fubd services that we need like schools.
You seen what cons have done to social care

Startingagainandagain · 06/10/2024 17:49

Frankly I have had enough of politicians, whether they are Labour or Tories.

The whole lot seem to be unable to do anything correctly and are more interested in getting elected/reelected than running the country properly.

Labour should get on with the job of fixing the mess that the Tories left.

They should not be in-fighting or doing idiotic things like targeting pensioners or disabled people.

They were elected because everyone had enough of austerity, chaos and corruption.

They need to remember that...

So frankly I don't give a damn if Sue Gray comes or goes (this type of stuff is just what the media obsesses about, not the average voter).

I want to see change and results.

My view is she knew exactly what she was getting into. She possibly had her head turned by the big job offer and thought her reputation and experience would buffer her from the media and public criticism which, given her seniority, was a rather naive mistake. She should have advised Starmer better over the recent press stories and also should have ensured a PPS was appointed. I dont think its any great loss, and I resent the made up job she’s been given

Edited

Starmer's defence on expenses was 'I followed the rules'. I detect the advice of a civil servant in that inadequate response ie Sue Gray. She advised him badly. A political operator like Morgan McSweeny wouldn't be very interested in rules but would be asking the right question: 'The rules may have been followed but what does this look like, especially given our attacks on Conservative sleaze and our promise to clean up politics?' Had this question been asked, Starmer and Cabinet members would have paid back money for tickets and clothes much more quickly, issued updated guidance on donations and appointed someone respected to look at state funding for political parties. A Labour own goal.

Are you having a fucking laugh? Don’t pretend you care about anything not serving your own interests - directly or indirectly. At least try to be honest.

The Tories were in power for 14 years, Labour are doing a pretty good job of blowing up in the space of three months.

Mmmm…..
“declared war on disabled”
The IFS would beg to differ …. “….. over the period that DLA has been replaced by PIP, a larger fraction of those with the poorest health have started to receive disability benefits, suggesting that the targeting of the benefits has improved on this margin.

Austerity ?? So let me understand this ….you believe that austerity which was a govt policy brought in with the rationale that the previous govt had handed over such a disastrous economic legacy was unnecessary but you think that cutting WFA for thousands of pensioners that are only in receipt of state pension which is a couple of pounds more than the pension credit limit is ok because the previous govt had handed over such a disastrous economic legacy!

Noname99 · 06/10/2024 18:20

And as far as ‘culture war bullshit’ is concerned, what in gods earth do you think VAT on private school fees is? A serious attempt to improve state education …. Come on!

Labour have so far targeted the parts of the electorate not traditionally their core voters. Funny that.

At the same time, they’ve handsomely rewarded the unions.

And with a straight face, and a brass neck, the Labour apologists on MN have the front to try to claim the moral high ground.

Fucking hypocrites.

She's not eligible as she's never been a Permanent Secretary. Simon Case blocked her.

And she breached the civil service code, I would be stunned if, after that, she got the top job.

There’s certainly not been a very smooth start but I don’t get the glee and the longing for this government to fail. It baffles me.

This will bells on.

Since 2016 this country has been in constant chaos mostly courted by horrendous Tory governments. Those bashing the new goverment need to give their heads a wobble, if we don’t have some stability for a period the economy will absolutely tank. The rest of the world is already laughing at us re Brexit!

Labour made much of saying they would offer an alternative to the chaos of recent conservative administrations.

And yet within weeks there has been backbiting and infighting.

The verbatim words of Chris Mason BBC - who broke the original story.

You know when you say yiu r not partisan pull the other one you r so oh the tories can do no wrong. Labour haven't blown up nothing apart from the constant right wing press talking them down. You know Boris Johnson took 900000 pounds of gifts but that wasn't as broadcasted. It's early days they are new to power so they are having teething issues with Sue grey most of us couldn't give a fuck.
The Tories have bad 14 years and they destroyed this country so far jwir has managed to talk to the European leaders civilly and at least trying to do stuff.
There is no back biting it's just that Sue grey prob wasn't right for that job.
I want to laugh the tories for 14 years have done fuck all for the youth because they don't both tory so yes if labour are going after traditional tory voters fucking fantastic because I have seen 14 tears of the opposite happen .
I know posh schools seem to be the thing on here most people I know couldn't care less

I’m going to enjoy watching Labour continue to implode - getting policy through will prove increasingly difficult.

Starmer has the look of a bloke shit out of ideas - no political nous, no interpersonal skills, no antenna. What a mug.

Mind you, we might get Rayner if this carries on - then you will begging for the Tories back.
