David Cameron back as Tory Leader?

Looking to be a landslide for Labour - I’m getting the feeling that Rishi will resign as Tory Leader and David Cameron will run and be elected as LoTP again…..

What is everyone else’s thoughts?

I hope I am wrong but think the next leader will be very right wing (esp given Reform's apparent performance). Braverman or Badenoch maybe? Or Baker?

Shudder.

How can he lead the party from the Lords? He would have to resign from the Lords (can’t see that happening) and run in a by election.

Also he’s centrist and the indications are that the party is moving firmly right.

Plenty of Tories waiting in the wings for the leadership race. Cleverly, Badenoch, Braverman for a start.

@good96 I think I follow your line of thinking. They need a caretaker type who isn't looking for power in the future. Three weeks ago, I thought that...

But Reform kind of changes that doesn't it.

Plus Starmer is bound to be disappointing so it's not necessarily a guaranteed win for labour in 2029.

I did not want to live in interesting times!

Badenoch is not “very right wing”. She may face down the likes of David Tennant but that wouldn’t make anyone very right wing.

Cameron's in the Lords.

StripedPiggy · 04/07/2024 23:49

He’s not an MP so he can’t stand for the leadership. And even if he could, I imagine that after 6 years as PM & a stint as foreign secretary the very last thing he would want to do is 5 years as leader of the opposition, which is probably the worst job in politics.

Their Lord and Saviour Bojo will return. 🙄 or they'll ask fuckwit Farage to join them.

Her economic policies are very right wing.

He is a shiny, smug, elitist moron who failed to understand the danger of holding a referendum on EU membership because he lives in a rarefied echo chamber. When he lost, he had a tantrum and resigned. I am a Tory voter and I loath him.

Tiredalwaystired · 02/11/2024 19:54

At least that didn’t happen.

chumpt · 06/11/2024 22:42

oh big definite NO! even bojo will be better than Cameron! have the gut to call referendum but cowardly quit when the people chose Brexit!
