Anyone else planning to set an early alarm to watch the results come in?

We didn’t bother in 2019, but there should be more than a few Portillo moments worth getting up at 3:30 for this year. Several friends are doing the same, and I appear to be in a WhatsApp group called 3:30 am Massacre of the Innocents, which I presume is ironic.

Will we be watching Rory and Alistair on Channel 4? Or BBC coverage?

Anyone else planning an early wake up, and to get through Friday fuelled by coffee and hope for a brighter future?

I'm unconvinced by the 'bed straight after exit poll' brigade. The exit poll is the starting gun on the actual coverage, and if it's in any way different to previous polling, they'll be swingometering the fuck out of it. I suspect this will be the moment people shuffling towards the bedroom find themselves oddly drawn back to the sofa. Not to mention witnessing Nicola Sturgeon as a pundit in real time. As Pavarotti said... None shall sleep!

Sturgeon on the TV makes me want to turn it off.

I would have loved to but I have a long drive on Friday.
I'll sneak a look on my 3 bathroom trips though. Usually 1am, 3am and 5am.

Tomorrow will work 8-5, then have a bit of a snooze and set my alarm for 10pm… then watch through until 4 or 5am depending on how results are going… then a Nana nap until 9am… and start work again at about 12pm.

I’m lucky to have flexible hours and some TOIL built up.

I'm getting nervous now, so tomorrow I'm going to go to bed after the exit polls and then wake up for about 4am. For Brexit and the 2019 election I went to bed hopeful and then got a shock upon waking up. So I'd rather try and stay awake this time!

Fooshufflewickjbannanapants · 04/07/2024 05:00

I'll be counting the votes! So will be awake anyway.

UnimaginableWindBird · 04/07/2024 05:22

I'm going to be in bed by 9 and will set an alarm for 2:45. I think I'm going to have BBC coverage in the sitting room and chanel 4 on a laptop in the kitchen and will do some middle of the night baking and make a fancy cream tea for breakfast.

Countrylife2002 · 04/07/2024 07:29

Yes watching the exit polls then up again at 3am. I’ve been off sick all week with a lergy but I am not missing this !

first year ever not watching BBC, will be watching channel 4 analysis on the telly but maybe sky next to me on laptop

Why not? I’m not going to bed at all.

Countrylife2002 · 04/07/2024 13:27

I am so excited I can’t focus on anything! Roll on 10pm.

What is a Portillo moment?

Portillo Moment refers to the dawning horror on former Conservative MP Michael Portillo's face as he lost his presumed "safe" seat. I remember it though it was many years ago now

MaGueule · 04/07/2024 14:38

Thanks for posting the Portillo clip. It’s golden!

I was living overseas ( in a remote African country) at the time, and my dad loved it so much, he sent me a VHS and made me promise to walk down to the local nunnery (bizarrely, the only place with a VHS player) to watch it. It was worth it!

I’ll be enjoying tomorrow’s moments live and in the comfort of my living room.

I’m excited too! I get back from choir rehearsal at 9.45 so just long enough to make a cuppa and find a chocolate digestive.

Me too.

Belindabelle · 04/07/2024 15:00

I will start the evening watching the Murray brothers hopefully win at Wimbledon.
Then plan is to stay up right the way through aided by champagne and espresso martinis. Don’t have to work or drive tomorrow so should be ok.

CH4 for me I think though may dip into some other channels.

Arlanymor · 04/07/2024 15:31

Antoine Derigny champagne is half price on Ocado if anyone is interested...
