Anyone else planning to set an early alarm to watch the results come in?

We didn’t bother in 2019, but there should be more than a few Portillo moments worth getting up at 3:30 for this year. Several friends are doing the same, and I appear to be in a WhatsApp group called 3:30 am Massacre of the Innocents, which I presume is ironic.

Will we be watching Rory and Alistair on Channel 4? Or BBC coverage?

Anyone else planning an early wake up, and to get through Friday fuelled by coffee and hope for a brighter future?

No, everyone will find out as soon as they wake up anyway, so to me it makes no difference.

TheChosenTwo · 03/07/2024 11:56

Dd and I are planning an election night party, camping out in the front room with a cheeseboard and cocktails! will be watching the results come in until 3-4am when I nod off and my alarm will be going off at 6:30.

SwedishEdith · 03/07/2024 11:56

I take the day off now because always end staying up all night.

This.

But I may take a wee peek when I wake up for my usual wee at 3am 🤣

I'm usually up really early for painkillers and normally wouldn't touch the TV, however this maybe a little different.

ohtowinthelottery · 03/07/2024 12:01

DH says he is but we've got a fairly long journey on Friday and a busy weekend so I will be dissuading him. As a PP has said, the result will be the same if he only hears it at 7.00am so what's the point?
A friend also said she was going to go to bed early and get up very early. Think she's taken the morning off work.
I'm just looking forward to tomorrow when they won't be able to talk politics on tv and radio! And yes, I will be voting. I'm not disinterested, just not obsessed with it all like DH

We plan on bed after exit poll and get up at 3 to either watch in bed on laptop or duvet downstairs....

BIossomtoes · 03/07/2024 12:16

I’m staying up all night fortified by a coffee and sugar overload. My alarm will be set for about 2.30 in case I drop off. I love election night.

WiseBiscuit · 03/07/2024 12:18

I always watch the results come in but I know I won’t be celebrating. But it’s always a good watch, even though I am in dread of what’s coming! It’s a bit sadistic.

StripedTomatoes · 03/07/2024 12:19

I only set an early alarm if I need to be at the airport! The result will be exactly the same when I wake up.

Shortfatsuit · 03/07/2024 12:20

I have booked annual leave on Friday so that I can enjoy the Portillo moments at my leisure.

longdistanceclaraclara · 03/07/2024 12:25

No. I'll see the result when I wake up.

My dad was always very political and when I was about 18 on election night, the BBC came to interview Dad, Mum and myself about what we hoped for. I think we were up most of the night. I don't remember how it came about. We are a staunchly Labour family and were very excited about Blair taking over - my dad loved him and then due to his war crimes he detested him by the end- but it was a given he would get in. My ddad has sadly passed away since but I know he will be looking down hoping for Labour to get in. I won't stay up tomorrow but I will definitely be waiting to hear first thing on Friday

scissy · 03/07/2024 15:56

I'll probably wait for the seat that tries to declare within an hour then go to bed!
Besides, several seats don't even start the count until the next day anyway.

spuddy4 · 03/07/2024 16:40

Up at 3am for work every day anyway so just another normal day for me.

TidyDancer · 03/07/2024 16:43

Booked Friday off work and planning an all-nighter! Not excited about Labour getting in but am pleased to see the back of the tories and love the drama regardless!

LadyGreySpillsTheTea · 03/07/2024 16:47

I will be up early, and I will then take the opportunity to listen to the results from 4am onwards, but I’m not getting up (or pulling an all-nighter) in order to do so. I have a horribly early flight, booked long before the election, so by the time I arrive in the UK I imagine there will be a new prime minister!
I imagine BBC and Ch4 are doing live podcasts as well as the TV versions, no? The C4 line-up sounds more interesting.
I can’t work out whether Rees-Mogg or Truss would be more satisfying as a Portillo moment. Sunak would top it all, of course.

LumiB · 03/07/2024 16:47

No my sleep is far more valuable

leeverarch · 03/07/2024 16:49

Not on your nelly.

I'll find out in due course anyway.

Cangar · 03/07/2024 16:51

I don’t normally stay up but I’m signed off work recovering from surgery so I may do this year!

RishiSunak · 03/07/2024 16:51

Nope.

mynameiscalypso · 03/07/2024 16:52

I'm planning to watch the exit poll and then go to bed for a few hours and get up at 2ish as we get the results in individual seats. I'll probably then try and get a few more hours sleep and doze a bit.

TwixOwl · 03/07/2024 16:52

I did with the Brexit... The counter was running on my phone! Couldn't sleep at all!

ToriesAgainstHumanity · 03/07/2024 17:21

I'm WFH on Friday so will have it on all day. I might get up earlier so I can have a bit of a watch in peace before I get the kids up.

Tinytigertail · 03/07/2024 17:23

We're going to an election party tomorrow but very much doubt that we will still be there for the results!
