Am I registered?

Name changed because I feel embarrassed to be asking. I have googled but it's not clear.

I recently moved house, and have received a polling card for the election on Thursday. All good, I thought.

My sister has just messaged me saying she can't believe our brother forgot to register to vote. Now I'm panicking - I haven't actively done anything to register but assumed receiving a polling card meant I'm registered from moving my address?

You wouldn't receive a polling card unless you were registered. Relax.

So... how did I register?! Was it just when I updated the council tax etc?

It's not linked to Council Tax, one can be liable to Council Tax but not eligible to vote. However it's quite likely that the council's website will ask if, as a new occupier, you also want to register to vote.
