Is this be biggest implosion of the Tory party we have ever seen??

I was 14 in 1997 so couldn't vote but remember my mum crying with happiness.

She's not stupid, she knows now is not a repeat of 97... nowhere near it, but she is astounded what's happening with the Tories at the moment.

Are they literally going to capitulate before our very eyes?!

FWIW I won't be voting Labour for a bit of balance!!

Just seen this. Delighted

is it right 75 Tories have today said that they won’t stand? Is there a list anywhere?

Zonder · 24/05/2024 20:21

Unfortunately Gove is like a horrible rash that come back again and again.

This low life will end up in the biggest waste of tax payers... the houses of lord crib.

I despair... Lord Gove... you'll never get rid of him like Cameron.

That's a lot of new candidates to find to stand in those seats!

Will there be people lined up to take over as the candidate?

Prawncow · 25/05/2024 17:27

They’re just joy thieves. They are depriving the public of Portillo moments.

McSteamyorMcdreamy · 25/05/2024 20:49

@Prawncow that's what my mum said!! She wanted to watch Gove's tears drop on his bottom lip apparently 🤣

Jeremy Hunt could still lose his seat. That’s where I’m planning to find my joy.

Zonder · 25/05/2024 23:32

I think he will go before he's pushed.

ilikecatsandponies · 26/05/2024 08:26

Potillo said afterwards he was glad he lost his seat as it would have been hard being in opposition.

So potentially also, for many of them it's a surprise that Sunak called the election now (back benchers found out on the news when we did after he'd told them to book holidays) and they are faced with cancelling their summer holidays to fight for a seat which they may well lose. If they win, the big prize will be four or five years at least in opposition. Or they could relax with their family over the summer and look for a new job.

There is not a chance Gove is gone permanently. He will come back as a journalist or in the next election or as someone said as a lord.
Others will go off and make dodgy money like David Cameroon did.
