My God I hated Thatcjer and all she stood for .. but at least I think she was honourable in her beliefs even if they were not mine .. but THIS LOT .. from BOJO onwards what a bunch of grifters ..

And before anyone says 'they are all the same ' .. I really don't think so ... At least in the 'lining their own pockets ' agenda .. AIBU to think this ?

Still twisting the facts twisty? You know perfectly well that the circumstances around Starmer's schooling were quite unusual. They have been pointed out to you numerous times, yet you persist. (And once again)...Reigate Grammar was a state grammar when he was sent there in Year 11 and he was fee-exempt until sixth form and then had a charitable bursary for those two years. Not quite the silver spoon you suggest.

You should apply to be Keir Starmer's official spokesperson - when his actual spokesperson was asked whether Starmer had received a charitable bursary for sixth form, the answer was Starmer "doesn't recall" the details.

(Starmer's spokesperson was trying to deflect accusations of hypocrisy).

Yes - I see he does;

Starmer has taken more freebies than all Labour leaders since 1997 combined.

He is an Arsenal season ticket holder, I won't hold that against him but he could do better

Clav I think you're proving Jess right there. Shall we start a list of Tory MPs held to the same account?

Gosh wouldn't it be interesting to see how that compares with the Tory leaders in the same period? Johnson's wallpaper cost more than that.

May I say I am also excited to interact with @Clavinova and their friends in the days after the General Election.

I'm sure I can cope thank you. You said your life lacked 'hope' earlier in the thread - I might even be pleased for you.

Oh but surely they were absolutely essential travel - why else would he do it? 😆

I remain pessimistic either way.

Usually when someone asks for comparisons the idea is that examples of both sides are presented. You seem quite obsessed with Starmer. I'm interested in some comparisons.

Clavinova · 06/05/2024 19:46

Saschka
There is more than one Swinton in England - we come from the Mexborough one, so more like 50 miles away from the Peak District, and about 100 miles from places like Ingleton.

Since you made such a fuss last night, I've just checked the map again. I did google the correct Swinton - the one north east of Sheffield and Rotherham? As far as I can see, Swinton is only 25 miles from Hope Valley - a popular tourist spot in the Peak District (I've been there myself). You didn't specify a particular location in the Peak District.

you then googled where you wrongly thought I was brought up to demonstrate it was closer to the Lake District than Reigate is.

I don't think I did google wrongly and I was demonstrating that the Peak District is really very close to Swinton - whereas Oxted (Starmer lived in Oxted) is 300 miles from the Lake District (I chose Windermere).

In fact, you said your family holidayed in the Yorkshire Dales (not the Lake District, neither did you specify a particular location at the time. Bolton Abbey, for example (which I've also visited) is less than 60 miles from Swinton.

Apparently he moved to the UK aged 6 with only his mother. It sounds as though he was having discussions with the Polish government;

I've got a very good job as it is, thank you. It's entirely irrelevant whether Starmer got a bursary or not, particularly as it was more than forty years ago. If the school had remained the grammar in which he started his secondary education, it would never have been a consideration at all. Therefore in this context it is wholly irrelevant.

I find Johnson refusing to disclose how many children he had to be much more hypocritical, particularly when he openly spoke of children of single mothers being 'ill-raised, ignorant, aggressive and illegitimate". A bursary is pretty palatable in comparison, no?

I don't think twisty was the one that kept going on about Starmer's schooling. But she (rightly) feels very strongly about VAT on private school fees and the negative impact this could have on SEN children.

Twisty never shuts up about Starmer's schooling. She can feel what she wants but she is not going to get much sympathy by twisting the truth to suit her own agenda.

References about political issues is not quite the same as delving into someone's personal life as far back as their childhood holidays or Saturday jobs

I don't want sympathy thanks, I never asked for it.
Just pointing out that Starmer (and I also include Diane Annott and others in this) are hypocrites. They a benefited (or their DC benefitted) from private education and now they want to tax it, thereby preventing people like themselves from accessing it.
I am not twisting any facts but here is a good one for you: Starmer went to watch his daughter compete with private schools at a GDST school event, held in the facilities of a private school. So again he is happy for his family to benefit from private schools but then wants to slap VAT on for other parents.

All I am doing is pointing out the blatant hypocrisy. Now I aware that it is blasphemy to dare to criticise Labour in any way and the standard insult is to call me a Tory. I am not, nor ever have voted Tory but if it makes you happy to think I am then knock yourself out.
