5 leaders in 14 years The new one is as bad as the old one when you point out that there are still problems they get defensive instead of admitting failures here and there. Thats more than enough time, and so-called leaders let someone else have a turn with different morals and thinking!.

Tell me what Labour offer instead. Or any of the other parties. I really have no idea of where Starmer stands on anything as he frequently changes his mind.

Instead of slagging off one party (which is childish), inform us of what others will do better.

Dacadactyl · 04/05/2024 08:44

Starmer has absolutely nothing about him whatsoever.

GrandmasMeatloaf · 04/05/2024 08:46

I would also love to know what others are voting for.

I think the current government is hopeless. But I also think the other parties seem hopeless. There is a lack of integrity, consistency and common sense across most politicians I read about. I would love to be able to vote for some that I could be able to trust.

MrsBobtonTrent · 04/05/2024 08:46

Doesn’t feel like there’s anyone to vote for. And they wonder why voter apathy is at an all time high!

Increasingly I’m thinking we just need to starve it all of the oxygen of attention.

Chausson · 04/05/2024 08:47

If you think any politician has morals you need to reevaluate your cognitive thinking skills.

This with bells on. Its scary this the best we can come up with! It's even scarier on the other side of the Atlantic. Its like the fall of civilisation. I bet Rome felt like this at the end.

BuckFadger · 04/05/2024 09:38

I am probably going to vote Conservative. Both parties are equally crap at the moment but I am fed up of Labour fans telling us how we should vote. It will amuse me if the reds are still unable to get an overall majority.

The Conservatives don't have a great track record of securing a majority either. They have had coalitions and minority governments. Only reason BJ got a majority last time was that people who voted Leave wanted Brexit. What a fab idea that was 👏👏👏

Funny you should mention the fall of Rome and end of civilisation as I've been reading a lot lately on catabolic collapse. It does feel like we are on that part of the cycle. The end of the fossil fuel age. An inevitable slow-ish descent downwards. Of which our ridiculous politics is just one of many symptoms. But perhaps this is a thread derail!

If you look at the actual numbers, more people don't vote Tory than do but until now the centre left progressive vote has been split.

I despise Reform but if they can split the right that will be a good start.

I'm not a huge fan of Starmer but given his legal background I suspect we won't see even a hint of what he's really like until Labour are absolutely secure in their win.

Every time Labour announce a policy the clueless washed up Tories pinch it.

Those who still vote Tory, congratulations on showing what you are by continuing to support a bunch of callous, clueless, racist, disablist, ageist, money worshipping mostly wealthy Caucasian toffs. Just because they went to the right schools and have the right accents you're delusional if you think that means they're on your side or that of anyone but themselves.

So you’re going to vote to continue to cut NHS spending, education and welfare spending? Bravo!

where have you been for the last 14 years. Ffs, it’s got to the point where anything has got to be better than this. I’d vote for an alley cat at this point, it would at least have more morals!

Billyandharry · 07/05/2024 07:51

Too many people in this country still think that posh accent equals intelligent.
If you're honestly going to vote Tory after what's happened in the last 14 years I don't think there's much anyone can say to educate you .
I'm voting labour - not because they're perfect but because they're much less shit than what we've got and something needs to change.

CremeBruleeLove · 07/05/2024 08:29

Hospitals, schools, social care services, mental health services, sure starts, police, ambulance, fire brigade.... how many reasons do you need?

Billyandharry · 07/05/2024 08:31

@CremeBruleeLove it's hard to know where to start really:)

If you think any politician has morals you need to reevaluate your cognitive thinking skills.

If you can't imagine that anyone who's worried about the state of the world might possibly decide that standing for office is the way to change things for the better you need to get to know some nicer people.

Not everyone is scum. Some people with morals are also gifted with drive and intelligence.

@Chausson really? Look at Jess Phillips quietly battling away for women for donkeys years.

Billyandharry · 07/05/2024 08:45

@Soigneur try google?

MonkeyTennis34 · 07/05/2024 08:46

They've got to go.
Liars
Over-privileged
Out of touch
Discompassionate

I'd vote for a donkey to get them out.

squashyhat · 07/05/2024 09:04

I live in a constituency that has never elected anything other than a Conservative mp with a huge majority. I feel like I'm pissing in the wind Sad

Billyandharry · 07/05/2024 10:16

@squashyhat well keep on pissing- you might inspire others? Even long standing Tories are disillusioned.

So do I. Yet the local council is now Libdem controlled and the MP (who is a senior government minister) is shitting himself. Well, not really, as I'm sure he'll be able to console himself with his millions if he gets the boot. It's one of those weird constituencies which is diehard true blue county Tory, but was also very much pro-Remain, and support for the party has just crumbled ever since. If yours is similar I suspect it is going the same way.

Jesn · 07/05/2024 12:35

I want to see politics dismantled a bit.

It’s utterly poisonous, this left v right shit. Con did this, Lab did that. In reality, both have done things that have fucked the country hard.

Most people want to be reasonable.

Both parties claim to prioritise the NHS. And yet, the NHS has been getting worse and worse, for decades. The NHS needs a complete divorce from politics.

This is the perfect example of the toxicity of left v right.

You called a party racist - the party who gave us the first non white prime minister.

you talk about tories going to the “right” schools. Starmer went to a selective grammar which turned into a private school for his last few years there. I’d say that’s a “right” school for sure.

don’t you see how toxic and preposterous these arguments are?

I despise politics.
