I can’t believe that anti-semitism is about to blow up the Labour Party again!

The Tories must be absolutely delighted.

I’ll let you Google as any link I’ve ever posted on any story I’ve ever discussed has been the wrong link to someone 🤣

I’ve just googled antisemitism and labour party and there appears to be no new news stories about it in the last few weeks.

RudsyFarmer · 25/10/2023 21:21

Ah your googling skills are poor.

You keep telling yourself this. Keep to the party line ffs

MidnightOnceMore · 25/10/2023 21:26

This story? Keir Starmer risks Labour unity but not votes with Israel-Gaza stance, despite anger of Muslim members

Or has something new happened?

I’m not a member of the labour party. But please feel free to end this guessing game and post an actual link to the mysterious story.

I thought we're being accused of being too pro Israel and Islamaphobic because of the need to not look antisemític?

23Oct · 25/10/2023 21:34

But isn't this them being accused of the opposite of antisemitism?

Bobbotgegrinch · 25/10/2023 21:39

It's hardly major, it's a few fringe people causing issues. Starmer has been fairly good at shutting down any antisemitic views, this won't have any pull with the vast majority of voters.

WarmWinterSun · 25/10/2023 21:40

I think the argument that will unfold is that there are anti semitic Labour MPs putting pressure on Starmer to be more critical of the response of Israel. So, Starmer is not antisemitic, but many Labour MPs still are in spite of the backlash against Corbyn. And Starmer is caught between a rock and a hard place- losing voters who want him to support a cease fire in Gaza vs criticism from those who say he is coming under pressure for antisemitic reasons.

WarmWinterSun · 25/10/2023 21:43

If anyone is in a good position to have a clear view on this it should be Starmer, given his human rights background. This is an opportunity for him to show real leadership and to demonstrate what he would be like as voice on the world stage. I think it could be a major issue for him, I hope he comes through it stronger.

RudsyFarmer · 25/10/2023 22:26

It will be certainly be interesting. I believe that any party propped up by activists is going to have a hard time working cohesively to govern effectively. So I’ll watch and see how they ride the storm.

This is nonsense. Labour were plenty cohesive last time. The Tories have got progressively less cohesive as their membership numbers and influence has shrunk.

You can't scream anti semitism everytime you want to crush critical debate.

This is apartheid and Palestinians are being murdered and collectively punished for the crimes of a few.

I'm afraid Britain, America and Israel will no win the argument and you can't stifle debate by using derogatory language to try and shut people up

The demonstrations are been very large and widespread....it's time to listen up pay a very high price.

itto · 30/10/2023 09:32

I find it really disturbing how the media is phrasing this as "Muslim MPs vs Starmer". I have heard plenty of criticism of Starmer in the last few weeks for all types of people. I was just at a demo called by 2 Jewish groups and people were all appalled at the UK position, Starmer included. I for one couldn't bring myself to vote for someone who condones cutting water and electricity to a refugee camp that has already been under blockade for over a decade. I cannot comprehend anyone supporting that. Also, I find reducing Judaism to blind support for Israel very antisemitic. There is obviously a growing group of Jews who openly reject Zionism and refuse any association to Israel.

Thank you for separating judaism and zionism.

But those crimes had people dancing in the street and celebrating.
Where were the Not in my Name demonstrations in the aftermath of October 7th
