If there was a GE today who would you vote for?

Bit cheeky but I’m curious to see if there are genuinely any Tory voters out there at all following another disastrous week for Rishi Sunak.

So who would get your vote?

I‘ll go first, I would vote Labour. As much as I would love to hear more on policy and a firm grittiness from them, I do understand that Keir Starmer is doing the best he can, in that he can’t alienate a large proportion of the electorate so needs to toe the line.

I think anyone who can say they’ll still vote conservative at the moment is basically saying that policies, track record, and competence, don’t matter to them. It’s unfathomable why anyone would support the current conservative party

Totally agree with you. It's like some people don't equate the cost of living crisis with our political leaders.

heldinadream · 23/09/2023 20:46

I think I would actually have to vote for the Monster Raving Loony Party, I now appreciate their completely valid and serious offering.
I am 68 and would all my life have rather ripped my own head off than voted Tory, which was fine as long as there were viable alternatives WHICH THERE NO LONGER ARE.

roarrfeckingroar · 23/09/2023 20:47

Lifelong Tory voter.

Could never vote Labour.

Will probably spoil my ballot.

I feel like there’s a right answer and a wrong answer here!
My answer is that I simply don’t know. I have major concerns about all 3 major parties. In truth though I live in a safe Tory seat so it doesn’t matter who I vote for 😒

Same. And my MP doesn’t even live here and isn’t contactable outside of snail mail. May as well vote for a hamster.

RosesAndHellebores · 23/09/2023 20:48

Conservative. I believe Labour would be worse, far worse, and I cannot reconcile the freedom of choice with the hard left.

The public voted for Brexit, including many solid Labour voters.

I could vote Labour or Liberal but the Conservative majority here is so big that a donkey wearing a blue rosette would win.

There just aren't the resources to help everyone. The number of people claiming disability benefits is soaring hugely and those on lower incomes and lone parents have to be supported. Also the number of pensioners increasing hugely and all the costs of disability benefits for them as they age .I doubt any party will help those in the middle , there is just no money. It's a bit of a ticking time bomb I feel.

I agree with this, it’s difficult. The one thing Labour would bring is a fairer society, youth workers back, more police presence, more creative curriculums in schools, community based hubs like the surestart facilities that helped so many families. All of this surely creates a more encouraging environment for people to live in.

Not a clue. They're all a disappointment really.

Surely you can't find But Jeremy Corbyn disappointing, or that guy who used to be in charge of the plants?

ReeseWitherfork · 23/09/2023 20:51

Dont believe this, almost offended by the suggestion. I feel confident if we redistributed wealth, everyone would have enough to be comfortable. Whatever that means. Wealth inequality is quite a global problem which adds to the complication, but not buying that there isn’t more the UK can do.

I would be genuinely interested to hear why those saying they will vote Tory will do so?

Honestly really curious as to why you would vote conservative after the past 13 years.

Also understand the fatigue with politics and the ‘not voting’ people but surely you want to use your democratic power to make change? This current governments culture war has clearly worked otherwise by making you believe everyone is like them and can’t be trusted which I don’t believe is the case.

That's fine, you don't believe it to be the case but I wouldn't trust the Labour Party as far as I could throw them

I'm sorry but the protection of women and girls is a big issue for me and Labour have shown they absolutely can't be trusted on that matter, they are either stupid, science deniers or so far in the pockets of stonewall etc that they are just puppets at this point. Even their supposed backtracking is clearly a cynical 'oh shit this could cost us votes' move

The Greens are even further into the vat of Koolaid and I would struggle to even tell you who leads the Lib-dems now or what they stand for.

But I can't vote Tory either, because of their track record.

So it isn't fatigue, it is that the whole damn lot of them deserve to get in the bin and therefore I CAN'T vote for any of them because I just won't vote for any party that dismantles our rights

Anything about his policy compared to the tories? Being a ‘drip’ doesn’t really cut it, he is much more credible than Rishi, Boris and Liz surely? He was the the director of public prosecutions, a real and very important job, I think he could be more gritty, but I’m so fed up of ‘personality’ politics. Look what happened with Boris Johnson when people voted on a false character that was purposely created to fool the general public!

I just find Kier totally cringe.

Please don't start on the million empty homes you know. They are owned by people, often who live in Dubai and Hong Kong, but no one can really be sure because anyone can buy a house here and hide who it belongs to.

It is very important that these people keep homes here and continue to make donations to the Tory party.

milveycrohn · 23/09/2023 20:53

At the moment, I feel like voting for the Monster Raving Looney Party (if it still exists).
I am unlikely to vote for the three major parties, so the real choice is whether I bother to vote; spoil my ballot paper, or vote for some obscure fringe party.
It is unlikely to make much difference to my area anyway.

I quite agree Labour have for the past 13 years introduced a whole series of government policies that erode not only women's rights, but everyones rights.

anotherside · 23/09/2023 20:54

Green. No interest in Tory or Tory lite.

mimi0708 · 23/09/2023 20:54

I will vote tactically to get the Tories out!

Pushkinini · 23/09/2023 20:55

I just find Kier totally cringe.

It's Keir, not Kier. He's far less cringe than Sunak who is so weak he couldn't fight his way out of a wet paper bag.

fishfingersandtoes · 23/09/2023 20:55

Labour or green

maddiemookins16mum · 23/09/2023 20:55

Anybody but Labour.

flappersdelight · 23/09/2023 20:57

I'm not a huge fan of Starmer but if you're going vote to let the Tories in again at the next election because you just find Keir "totally cringe" then god fucking help you, or more importantly, everyone else.

BinkyBeaufort · 23/09/2023 20:57

It won't matter how I vote (hint: it won't be Conservative).
However, where I live you could stick a blue rosette on a tapeworm and it'd win.
Hell, we had Nadine Dorries for about 15 years so there's no hope. QED

Mum1976Mum · 23/09/2023 20:58

Would have to vote conservative as Labour would get rid of charity status for private schools which means we would have to disrupt our children’s schooling as we couldn’t afford the 20% increase in fees and her 2 best friends would lose their 100% bursary as they wouldn’t be able to offer them anymore. How about Labour promising to make all schools so good that people wouldn’t want to pay for private rather than taking away that choice for most people unless you are super wealthy.

StarDolphins · 23/09/2023 20:58

I have voted both in the past (mainly tories) but I can’t stand conservative & I can’t stand Labour. For the first time ever, I have no clue.

anotherside · 23/09/2023 20:58

@RosesAndHellebores

Conservative. I believe Labour would be worse, far worse, and I cannot reconcile the freedom of choice with the hard left

Tories have been in power for 32 of the last 45 years (with New Labour hardly being left wing either). The result is that the the NHS is imploding, cost of living is becoming unmanageable, house ownership has absolutely plummeted…

Janieforever · 23/09/2023 20:58

Tory. I can’t see any of the others as even remotely as competent as running a government. And that’s not a positive statement.
