I spent the time reading the conclusions of the parliamentary report on Boris and the accusations that he misled parliament.

What I learnt was that our politicians are void of any moral compass, they lack judgement and are self serving over privileged babies.

If there is one thing I want the next government to do and that is to remove the honours system and install an elected house. I never really wanted one but if it puts a stop to this abuse it will be worth it.

I honestly don't know how our politicians expect it's citizens to play fair when they openly abuse the system the way they do

@dubsie To be fair, most politicians and prime ministers have respected parliament. I cannot think of another pm who behaved like Johnson. Trying to prorogue parliament was another swipe at democracy. We are leaning towards a “no holds barred” form of government which needs to be stopped. The Speaker is forever reminding Suella Braverman about her obligations so at least one person is ensuring we have proper information given to the House. The Supreme Court has upheld democracy too.

Harold Wilson’s resignation honours were the first to be widely queried snd criticised. In the 70s. They have been used to bolster the Lords with political friends ever since. We have seen honours totally abused. Even the ones doled out by the monarch are dubious! Far too many Olympians! Years ago these people gave something back after retirement before a top honour was given. Now one gold medal is enough!

So yes, elected House of Lords. It’s been necessary for decades. However we need expertise there. People like Lord Winston. So I might favour a hybrid model of election and knowledge. Definitely not a 30 year old aide of Boris!

The upper house is supposed to be one of those checky balancey things so it would need to be set up so that it didn't simply mirror the commons.
