Utterly debased herself with her unabashed, brown-nosed sycophancy, only to be cast offf like trash when it comes to rewards for the boys.
Couldn't have happened to a nicer woman.

Dorries gives women a bad name. She Is just vile

EyelessArseFace · 26/08/2023 19:38

She thinks she is an important politician, a prominent author and a television celebrity. She also appears to be under the impression that people like her.

How deluded can you get?

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 26/08/2023 20:01

She really is deluded.

saraclara · 26/08/2023 20:10

EyelessArseFace · 26/08/2023 18:57

Hallelujah and good riddance.

I bet I know what's going to happen round these parts now though. All the sensible votes will be split too evenly between L and LD, and the bloody Tories will get in yet again.

Plus the independent who seems to be hoovering up support round my way. I'm frustrated that the 'not Tory' vote is going to be split three ways (plus) now. I wish he'd withdraw.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2023 20:21

Last time that independent guy nearly lost his deposit didn't he?

He hasn't stood at a GE before.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2023 20:38

Oh right, I assumed it was that Alan Victor chap.

Piggywaspushed · 26/08/2023 20:53

Oh that Mackey bloke. Presumably, only voters in Flitwick ?

TizerorFizz · 26/08/2023 21:44

Given that she’s been so awful, maybe regular Conservatives will vote for a decent candidate? Depends how many are solely put off by her or overall Conservative policies and RS etc. It might be difficult to know and often the default position is vote Lib Dem and not Labour, as in Chesham/Amersham. There might need to be fewer alternative candidates to dislodge the Conservatives. It will be interesting though.

I think there's every chance that a lot of constituents who normally vote Tory will defect. But we need there to be as few alternatives as possible.

Realistically an independent doesnt stand a chance of winning. There isn't a single MP in the Commons who was elected as an independent. But Mackey is popular in Flitwick at least (and to be fair to him he's a very engaged and effective councillor for Mid Beds), and might well be seen as an 'acceptable' alternative to voting Lab or LibDem by those who are natural Tories but are just really angry. So he'll split the vote and we'll end up with a Tory again.

TizerorFizz · 26/08/2023 23:13

“None of the above” candidates have won. Eg Martin Bell. Unusual though. Yes. Definitely a danger if the vote is split. Realistically though, Labour might still be unpalatable in a Conservative stronghold.

Piggywaspushed · 27/08/2023 08:02

I think a lot rides on how much the Con candidate distances himself from the toxic politics of Nadine and Boris. At the moment, to many , he just seems a guy wo likes having his picture taken for social media, usually surrounded by his children's friends smiling teenagers at some local event. But, politically, he says astonishingly little. I genuinely don't think he has any political views at all. This could be a good strategy in Mid Beds.
Bell won because of a very particular issue, and because he was famous. I was racking my brains last night trying to think of what the big , passionate issue is that dominates mid Beds discussions. Couldn't think of one. It's a rather 'I'm all right Jack', apathetic and complacent constituency. Up til recently, I think people have found it passingly funny that Dorries is the MP. But they've had enough. If they associate Conservatives in their current mould with her and see Akinbusoye too as 'brand Toxic Tory' , someone else will win. If they just see her as a one off, then they will vote Tory again.

The area has a strange habit of going against the zeitgesit, voting in a Tory mayor recently in neighbouring Bedford, voting in a Tory as the PCC and yet, next door Bedford, voting in a Labour MP at the last election and deposing the Tory, when everywhere else red walls were falling . They then bitch on SM about these Tories doing nothing ! The PCC is the Tory candidate and there has been some annoyance about him continuing to do this while running for MP .

I feel like I know the grand total of nothing about the Lib Dem woman.

TizerorFizz · 27/08/2023 14:13

@Piggywaspushed We don’t have any special issues in my constituency either. It’s often just a protest vote and rarely leads to much , eg Chesham and Amersham MP won’t stop hs2 devastation. I will be interested to see what happens there in a GE.

I also agree that knowing much about candidates is difficult and many are just “yes” politicians who don’t stand up for anything much. Loyalty to the leadership is valued though. Governments fail with internal arguing. Always do!

Sunak is more of a solid pair of hands. Not a showman. Personally I’ve little against him and he is steady. Far better than BJ. I think Labour are rowing back from some of their expensive policies and high tax. They must have noticed the empty HQ buildings in London! They need high tax payers to do anything. This might make wavering Tory voters trust them more. Interesting times.

Sunak is corrupt and is governing more for India and personal gain than he is for the UK and its citizens.

The latest whizz is on the India trade deal (nothing free about it) 100s of 1000s of work & student visa's organised and set up by Infosys, his wife's family very own company... another "inadvertent" mistake by Sunak...

So 100% agree with Dorries on her take of Sunak.

Solid pair of hands? .... have you seen what the gilt markets think of his handling of the economy? i'll tell you, way worse than when Truss worked her "magic" costing the UK 10s of billions, Sunak is costing us all far more, not least in falling pension valuations.

Zonder · 27/08/2023 14:31

Sunak is a solid pair of hands...

If you're in his family or friend circle. I'm sure they can all count on him to look after their interests.

TizerorFizz · 27/08/2023 17:53

What a load of racist tosh. Would you prefer Johnson or Truss. She who completely took a sledge hammer to pensions overnight? I don’t care who Sunaks relatives are. Or his country of origin. I do prefer an intelligent economist to an ego centric “maniac” and a light weight chance who didn’t understand the reality of global economics and sacked her main Treasury adviser. Sunak is more sensible than these two.

dubsie · 28/08/2023 08:24

To be honest the best thing for the country would be to get rid of this entire government.

We've just come back from North Devon and there is a growing number of beaches that are no longer safe to bathe. It took decades to clean our shores and it only happened because of EU pressure and regulations. A couple of years since Brexit and a government unwilling to regulate and here we are heading back to the 1970s.

You can see this mess across the entire country from Housing, polluted air and health....the government is slowly unpicking the regulations that protect our welfare so a few greedy people can make money more easily.

Nadine Dorris is just one of many those Tories

Maggiethecat · 28/08/2023 09:32

How she ever got into the government in the first place is astonishing.

History will not look kindly on on a fair few.

saraclara · 28/08/2023 10:56

It's all ramped up here in the constituency.
Labour knocked at my door yesterday, and Festus and his canvassing team were all gathered in Tesco car park this morning. If they knock on my door it's not going to go well.

Piggywaspushed · 28/08/2023 11:06

They do seem to be focusing on Flitwick and Shefford.

It was actually a Tory donor who said Sunak is governing for the benefit of India and needs to make his mind up.

You know it should be possible to criticise Sunak and not be called Racist.

Truss, Johnson or Sunak? little difference really, all corrupt, all using the last few months of power to make sure they make more money.

TooBigForMyBoots · 28/08/2023 20:32

I wouldn't say Sunak is governing for the benefit of India, more he is governing for the benefit of his family finances.

He breached parliamentary guidelines wrt his wife's company benefiting from new Childcare systems. His deal with India will see other of her companies benefit to the tune of 100s of millions of £££.

In the recent Uxbridge By-election the candidate didn't mention him in any of the literature because he is not popular. He's a Half-a-Term PM. If he survives long enough to fight the next GE, he'll be removed shortly after it.

TizerorFizz · 28/08/2023 23:11

His wife is not India. His wife’s family are not the only business people in India. Lots of people can benefit from trade deals. Are we saying the government cannot do trade deals? He’s just one person. I would rather Brexit never happened but we cannot just turn our backs on other opportunities because of one family.

If you say there is corruption, please instruct a lawyer. Prove it in court.
