The SNP/Threats to Murder

Yesterday, Kirsten Oswald, Stewart McDonald, Alison Thewliss and Kaukab Stewart of the SNP stood next to a sign reading ‘decapitate TERFs’.

’TERF’ is a term used to abuse lesbians like me for not sleeping with males, as well as feminist women.

When are we going to see resignations over this issue? I am not a Tory but I know full well that the likes of David Cameron or Jacob Rees-Mogg have been widely condemned for saying much less.

This is how all extremist movements start. It says a lot about the SNP if they look away - the SNP has a history of homophobia and even accepted donations from Brian Souter (he was their top donor at one time) who wanted to keep Section 28 and who was convinced that same-sex marriage would collapse society.

I’m absolutely disgusted that they’re now supporting the murder of lesbians. So much so that I’ve contacted the police as it is only a matter of time before lesbians are attacked on the back of what the SNP are stirring up.

It just shows how the political rhetoric around violence against women is just that - hot air. No thought to how allowing this kind of statement to be unchallenged may embolden men to enact violent acts against women. Well done for contacting the police.

I also saw a photo of Patrick Harvey, Ross Greer and Alex Cole Hamilton applauding Beth Douglas who organised it? That's green MSPs and a lib dem, applauding a trans woman who has threatened and harassed women on line.

Where does Beth get the funding to organise large rallies across the country?

Years ago, I watched on TV news as the police allowed people to walk down the street with signs saying "Behead those who insult Islam". Years before that people openly called for the killing of Salman Rushdie without penalty.

Now I see a free pass being given to incitement to kill those with gender critical views. I'm not bothered about insults on placards - "you're all dirty kuffars" or "TERFs are all smelly" etc but a state that tolerates incitement to murder is storing up trouble.

The SNP specifically seems happy to plonk itself next to such signage while chucking women out of meetings for merely wearing Suffragette colours. Sort of tells me what they're comfortable with.

In the UK, we can cite several things to show TERF is considered to be hate speech:

District Judge John Woollard acknowledged 'Terf' as a derogatory word aimed at, primarily, gender critical women. (Basildon Magistrate's Court on 01/03/2019 REGINA vs YARDLEY).

All Party Parliamentary Group Report on Hate Crime stated that:

"It can easily be argued that this constitutes hate speech under Criminal Justice Act, which people have been successfully prosecuted for."

Standards Commission for Scotland again: Dundee Councillor Gregor Murray was suspended after the Commission found Murray "abused the complainer by referring to her as a TERF (a pejorative term which stands for ‘trans-exclusionary radical feminist’)."

Mr Justice Knowles in the Harry Miller vs College of Policing case acknowledged "terf" as a derogatory slur. That's UK case law. Miller won his case, if I recall correctly.

“I have become familiar with term TERF. It is a derogatory term used by those who seek to deplatform those who hold different views”. 21/11/19 UK

Judge also asserted, "It can be pejorative."

Also, Medical Journal of Australia has recognised 'terf' as a "derogatory term":

"Aug 8, 2019
The MJA apologises unreservedly for the derogatory term used in a recent post, which does not reflect the views of the MJA. A review of all our social media protocols is underway to ensure similar incidents are not a part of the MJA's social media activity - MJA Editor-in-Chief"
