I think some people like to say they hate "wokeness" without thinking what it means.

Unfortunately the woke movement is made up of individuals with mental health issues who project their own insecurities, biases and prejudices onto others. They often call disbelievers of the movement "racists" without realizing they are looking in the mirror.

Woke folk are truly the lemmings of society.

Asleep on the job?

mach2 · 11/02/2024 09:19

The "woke" lot are crybullies. They claim oppression and victimhood while hammering on the doors and windows of places where women are meeting. They incite others to "punch a TERF in the fucking face". They destroy careers.

Then claim that they are victims. No - they are hunting for victims.

Responding to a post about Woke Left & culture wars with Right and what would be the alternative opposite.. some have simply presumed it may be racism, an unawareness of injustices... however the problem is that the original or intent of being Woke is mainly advocacy of social of injustices. However we also have the right "wokism" where advocacy & activism by the left begins and continues to cross over boundaries & overbearing & distortions of truth & facts.
I would share that an equitable alternative to the "presumed" Woke left that the same on the right would be Pro-Truth /Anti-wokism and within this there would also be Woke perspectives that hold Factual evidence based principles of informed educated insight that also aim to Advocate for social injustices for the Values. rights that are or could be infringed upon and/or impact on other people to the extent that their basic legal, moral, civil rights & liberty & human personhood would be compromised as a conflict of justice between one or more people or group. It is not accurate to presume that the alternative opposite of Woke/Wokism must be racism/ignorance /uninformed awareness of injustices.
Woke social discourses around Civil rights, liberties & injustices exist across the whole spectrum from Left to Right. 'is it possible that perhaps Wokism has gone down a rabbit hole that it is no longer Awake to see distortions in reality, truth & facts. In addition just because a person or group on the left or right advocate for the social injustices they percieve has significant this does not automatically make the proposed injustice as valid, factual nor a endless free ticket to simply getting what you or people because they feel they have an outright Authority to expect their demands to be met. It also could mean that there are double injustices on either side in conflict.. which results in circular debates and duality of black & white thinking.. instead of realising that there needs to be more than one solution to the dilemma.. which also means we have to be able to engage in healthy social discourse in ways that are not seeking to compete with each others issues but to continue with shared dialogue & connection that promotes & aims to consider solutions and resolution that is able to protect, prevent & nuture the safety, wellbeing & liberty of all people.

The true definition of Wokeism - progressive or leftwing attitudes or practices, esp. those opposing social injustice or discrimination, that are viewed as doctrinaire, self-righteous, pernicious, or insincere.

cupcaske123 · 08/08/2024 11:11

Woke is originally an American term meaning awake to structural racism and inequality.

However the meaning has been changed by the right wing press to mean intolerant 'progressive' ideology.

All of these “Woke” Comments
Stop using the term. Since 2020 George Floyd tragedy, individuals outside of the African American Arts & Intellectual Community had our phrase “Woke” taken completely out of context and it’s annoying. It’s nothing to do with sexuality, politics or hidden agendas. It was simply a term used for Artists and intellectuals that were more similar to the “Beatniks” of the Sixties. It’s the Black version of “Beatniks” and now the term was taken into political Dog Whistling, a Slur, and divisive rhetoric. It’s CRINGE

Iwishminebigger · 18/08/2024 15:50

The opposite of woke is usually common sense.

marmaladeandpeanutbutter · 21/08/2024 07:24

I'd say it's bigotry.

anyolddinosaur · 22/08/2024 07:49

"Woke" people these days are the biggest bigots you will ever meet - not only incapable of seeing another point of view but not willing even to listen. That's the definition of a bigot.

Slept.

I'm honestly shocked that no one gave this reply sooner. I mean, they were basically begging for it. 😉

The problem with woke is this isn't the 1800s. We fought for and ended slavery. Had the civil rights movement. And as a nation corrected the wrongs of the past.

Then came the Democratic party with redlines, Jim Crow laws, and the creation of the welfare state through LBJ. It's entirely too politically opportunistic to me, to be this pessimistic and in denial of our history to lean into this ideology, when it's coming from the same party that created these problems to begin with.

Yes, Nixon was a jerk. That happened, but you can't co-opt all of history because of the actions of one bad actor... Though every day we continue to dig up that dead horse and continue to beat it one more time.

What's more problematic is the coordinated effort at home and abroad to facilitate mass migration from Central America and subvert our laws to allow illegal entry into the US while at the same time working to grant voting rights to non-citizens. It would erode the character of our nation that allowed us to set right the wrongs of the past. Case in point, the flood of support for Hamas and Hezbollah (known terrorist organization, designated so by the federal government in the US, and the EU).

How can we as a nation or a larger coalition of allies stand against tyranny when we are politically supporting it?

Wrongs of the past? What about the wrongs of now and the past twenty years? (for a start)

That's a pretty broad comment... What do you mean by that?

You are seriously asking what has America done internationally that's wrong? Ignoring two nuclear bombs, countless interference in other countries, funding a genocide in Guatamala, Vietnam etc etc

War crimes commited in Afghanistan (and leaving it to the Taliban) and Iraq, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib and currently funding a genocide against Palestine. That's just foreign policy.

What about America's war on women? Huge numbers of rape and violence against women and girls, child marriage and the abortion ban.

Rampant gun violence, endemic racism and police brutality, the separation of children at the border and so on. Try righting some of those wrongs.

Easy there pot. And that's what why I asked for clarification... You added a lot more context the second time around that clearly wasn't communicated in your first post.

Based on your revised question though, it seems like you have gone hook, line, and sinker for whatever the political left media is telling you. DM me (if you can do that on here) if you'd like to have a rational discussion about it.
