Latest YouGov poll translates to only 3 Tory seats at next election

I've seen analysis of today's YouGov poll that puts Labour at a 33 point lead, and when translating that lead to an election result, gives the Tories only 3 seats in total. That puts them somewhere between the Green party and the Lib Dems when they were persona non grata post the coalition government. Of course an election wouldn't play out like that (and there won't be an election anytime soon) but whatever way you look at it, they're in a disastrous position. It's very difficult (imo), to see how they come back from this, that's the sort of poll result that signals a complete wipeout at the next election. If you were a Tory MP, what would you be doing with this information? What do we think they will do to try to pull this back, and have some hope of holding onto their seats? Do they even want to?

I believe last time the Tories crashed the pound, they won the next election.
When the Tories presided over thousands and thousands of people losing their home through repossession, they won the next election.
When Tory policies resulted in over three million unemployed, they won the next election.

Not after polls like this they haven't! That would really be a result for the history books.

This is a Blair Honeymoon period level poll. Loonnnggg before Iraq, in the "Things Can Only get Better" days.

They need to recall Liz and Kwazi pronto.

Penguinsaregreat · 29/09/2022 21:07

I think people will still vote for them. There is not going to be a election soon.

FitAt50 · 29/09/2022 21:13

Sadly the millions of old people who will always vote tor, arent on Yougov and don't get included in these surveys.

SkankingWombat · 29/09/2022 21:14

It's a nice thought OP, but sadly people have short memories/a disconnect between their lives and government policy/aspirations of eventually reaching the echelons that benefit from the policies/masochistic tendencies. I wouldn't count your chickens just yet.

bellac11 · 29/09/2022 21:15

I dont think Labour would get in and quite frankly I wouldnt want them to, they'll be blamed for all this shit as it will be conveniently forgotten who caused it

It will take decades to correct the brexit issue and now this storm.

Hayliebells · 29/09/2022 21:18

But what are Tory MPs going to do about their piss poor, not seen in 25 years, approval ratings. Just.....do nothing? I wouldn't be surprised if we see a shift in support for Labour from the likes of the Murdoch papers, it's what happened pre-1997. If they think a Labour win is likely, the money men will be trying to work out how they can bribe Labour, as opposed to the Tories. That should be interesting.

I'd be surprised if the tories can turn this around. So far i'm not even sure they've grasped just how bad things are for them. They won't get only 3 seats at the next election, although chances are they'll lose, possibly an even bigger defeat than 1997 where they had a vote share of 29%.

This said, the next election will likely be May 2024 at earliest. Liz Truss can't last that long can she?

Hayliebells · 29/09/2022 21:34

But how are the Tories to get rid of her without another leadership election? I can’t see that winning them any votes either, the public are in no mood for another Tory popularity contest, where the members just put another bozo in charge. They chose Johnson then Truss, whose to say it’ll be third time lucky? They seem incapable of electing serious grownups.

Who believes the polls? They predicted a comfortable win for Remain!

nancy75 · 02/10/2022 15:13

I wouldn’t be too shocked if Bozo is PM again before the next election. With a normal govt you wouldn’t think it possible but I wouldn’t put anything past this lot

The majority of people who vote for the tories are just turkeys voting for Christmas

Redqueenheart · 02/10/2022 15:27

That's 3 too many as far as I am concerned...

Anyone who heard Rayner interviewed by Andrew Neil would know what a clueless politician. And she’s supposed to be deputy leader of the opposition. Talk about voting for turkeys! Then there’s the rest of the crew!
