In basic terms, does anyone have an answer?

The trickle down theory is such that if people (the wealthy) have more money they will spend more money and this will stimulate the economy through higher demand. It's bollocks

Danikm151 · 23/09/2022 17:46

It won’t except for those who earn above £150k
i worked out that reducing income tax to 19% will mean I earn £170 extra a year take home but after UC reductions I will only benefit from around £70-80. Not exactly going to be a big help.

HappyHappyHermit · 23/09/2022 17:47

They won't.

LizzieSiddal · 23/09/2022 17:47

No

thedancingbear · 23/09/2022 17:49

They won’t help at all.

LizzieSiddal · 23/09/2022 17:49

Sorry, I should have added that although Truss and her chancellor think they have the answers, only about 1% of the worlds economists agree with them.

thedancingbear · 23/09/2022 17:50

Trickle down theory was fully discredited be economists by the late 80s. No valid rationale, and zero evidence, to suggest it works

AnnaMagnani · 23/09/2022 17:51

In basic terms, they won't.

MrsMigginsCat · 23/09/2022 17:52

Trickle down economics. Load of bollocks in the 80s. Load of bollocks now. It will just help rich people get even richer. The rest of us? Well, the Tories don't care.

PeterRabbitagain · 24/09/2022 08:39

Yeah, I mean eveni if Truss's theory is right and the net result of these measures is we have more money overall in the coffers (yet to be seen), they haven't guaranteed how that money will be spent anyway.

Trickle down theory is a load of bollocks. If you put more money in the pocket of a relatively poor person they are very likely to spend it all, which obviously benefits the economy. Those million pound earners aren't going to spend their extra £50,000k a year, they are going to squirrel it away in (tax efficient) investments.

marmaladepop · 24/09/2022 13:09

@Twig - I agree wholeheartedly with you

icelolly12 · 25/09/2022 12:26

They won't, they are not designed to. They are designed to make the rich richer and more powerful. The rest of us are left to suffer and give everything we have in terms of our workload. We aren't seen aS humans but pawns to make the rich richer. And with taking away Union powers we are left powerless unless we all come together and vote against it. DON'T VOTE TORY!

OverTheHillAndDownTotherSide · 25/09/2022 12:33

Does this get everyone fed? No.

In basic terms, how will these tax cuts help the country?
Bettyboo12 · 25/09/2022 23:03

It's shit the tories are bastards.

CherryGenoa · 25/09/2022 23:08

It’s utter bollocks. We have to boot these neoliberal tories out.
