That's a relief.

'Fraid I did a quick Google for results before I could quite believe it but did then actually exhale.

Bloomsbury45 · 02/07/2021 07:18

…..despite Galloway having taken 1000s of votes.

jgw1 · 02/07/2021 07:18

Its a good result for Labour and perhaps a sign that there fortunes are starting to change.

redcarbluecar · 02/07/2021 07:18

Positive news in tricky times. Hope she does a good job.

colincarrot · 02/07/2021 07:24

I was hoping they would lose in the hope they may elect an actual leader. although they haven't been able to for a long time and I doubt they would now

I have no idea what you mean by an actual leader. Their opponents have someone who has acted unlawfully, is that the sort of person you mean?
MissyB1 · 02/07/2021 07:27

Phew! Good news.

lotsofdogshere · 02/07/2021 07:36

8000 votes to the dreadful Galloway . colincarot, I suppose you mean that kind of leader. Bigoted

GolfEchoRomeoTangoIndia · 02/07/2021 08:16

Pleased about that. It sounds as if Galloway’s mob have been acting appallingly.

Blacktothepink · 02/07/2021 08:17

👏👏👏

jgw1 · 02/07/2021 08:30

What is interesting I think is that two weeks ago the polls showed the Tories ahead. Clearly Boris in hi-vis did not have the impact that was hoped for when he visited on Monday.

colincarrot · 02/07/2021 08:33

rather large jump there @jgw1 @lotsofdogshere
I simply meant that as a leader I don't rate Starmer. ...he will not get labour back in.

jgw1 · 02/07/2021 08:41

So you don't want a leader like Keir Starmer, and I suggested perhaps a leader like the Prime Minister and someone else George Galloway, both of which you also seem to be rejecting.

Would you be so kind as to describe what kind of leader you would like?

Yes, I agree. Starmer wasn’t what I hoped for after Corbyn.

Although yesterday, KS vowed to stay in the event of a Bat & Spen loss. So he might have stuck to that anyway.

Are you crackers?! Clearly she is a Labour supporter who would like a BETTER Labour Leader than this wash out or the last Bolshevik gnome.

There are a few of us.

Stop talking nonsense and offering her Tories and fruitcakes as notional replacements. Confused

Jaichangecentfoisdenom · 02/07/2021 13:03

I hadn't realised until just now that Kim Leadbetter is Jo Cox's sister, Blush which to my mind, makes this an important deal. She looks to me, from the short interview I saw, to be a worthy successor to her sister. George Galloway is always out to muddy the waters, I can't find the words to express my lack of respect for him.

PineappleWilson · 02/07/2021 13:11

I was amazed how quickly they got this counted with such a fine margin. I thought they did recounts where election results were as lose as this. 300 odd results is such as squeak but I'm glad she held it. It's been such a nasty campaign.

B0G0F · 02/07/2021 13:14

Congratulations to Kim Leadbeater on her win.

SissySpacekAteMyHamster · 02/07/2021 13:17

I can only ever see George Galloway on all fours pretending to be a cat. EURGGHHHH.

Thanks for putting that image back in there.

B0G0F · 02/07/2021 13:30

Keir Starmer is fine. The problem is that people want a 'personality'.

Kim Leadbeater had quite a challenge and she did it.

Let's never forget Jo Cox.

ThomasHardyPerennial · 02/07/2021 13:41

I thought Kim's statement after the results totally missed the mark, and sounded like it was written for a higher majority win. The community is divided, and pretending it isn't is not going to help anyone. There is a lot of work to do to rebuild trust with Labour, and I think it is wrong for Labour to pretend the results were a resounding success.

I live in the constituency, by the way.

B0G0F · 02/07/2021 14:10

It probably was written in the hope of winning at all THP, it wasn't going to be an easy win.

B0G0F · 02/07/2021 14:11

The Labour party needs to rebuild trust within the ranks.

Why did Labour lose trust in Batley & Spen?

Bouledeneige · 02/07/2021 20:18

I'm pleased about it. I've met Kim a few times and she's great. Salt of the earth.

I think Matt Hanscock had something to do with it....
