NHS voting.
Conservative MP's vote against.

My local MP (who I didn't vote for) is included. Sad

The clause was voted down with 340 "Noes" to 251 "Ayes" during debates over the Trade Bill in Parliament on 20 June.

Tory MPs voting down a legal bid to 'protect the NHS' in a trade deal with the US.

What did the clause say?

cdtaylornats · 22/07/2020 22:37

I see why it was voted down. Purely doctrinal lines. As long as the NHS keeps to the free at point of delivery then surely it doesn't matter who provides it.

Noextremes2017 · 24/07/2020 15:10

It might actually improve the NHS!!

applecatchers36 · 24/07/2020 15:14

Improve the NHS? How by removing caps on pharmaceuticals so American big pharma can charge astronomical prices for generic drugs that we have kept down through EU membership.

You do know the number one reason for American bankruptcies is medical bills, that's where we are heading....

cdtaylornats · 26/07/2020 16:19

You've got that wrong US pharmaceutical companies produce generic drugs far more cheaply. The prices in the EU are kept high by tariffs to "protect" EU manufacturers.

applecatchers36 · 26/07/2020 16:49

I work in the NHS and access to generic drugs through EU socialised medicine means we don't get astronomical drugs cost as per US big pharmaceuticals.

Do you seriously believe that Trump's ' free market' ( profit first)will benefit the NHS ? This is a country that charges for the service of 'skin to skin' after childbirth as an extra ' procedure'. Come on.
