Silvery Wine

I think from now on, whenever I'm attacked for being a 'Leaver' I'll simply point that out Silvery. In fact, there's no such thing as a Leaver or a Remainer anymore.... only those who accept - and Rejoiners.

They can argue with each other from now on.

SingingLily · 02/02/2020 14:28

The hysterical reaction to Diana's death by people who did not know her and had never met her was an eye-opener. We went on a trip to New York just a week later and were sitting on a bench in Central Park, enjoying the scenery and the greenery, and you wouldn't believe the number of kindly Americans who came over to us to sympathise with "your terrible loss. You must be devastated". They meant well. I just kept saying, "Well actually, we're relieved to be away from all of that", but then they praised us for being so terribly British and reserved and stiff upper lip about it all.

Yes, the reaction is on that level and the shock began to set in as soon as Sunderland voted 61% to Leave.

Didn't someone point out on the last thread that in nearly four years, the percentage of Remainers who have reached "acceptance" has only moved to 30% from 20%? At this rate, it's going to take another 28 years.

Life's too short. These days, I'm too impatient to buy green bananas.

🍷 🍷 🍷 for Silvery (and anyone else in need of refreshment!)

“They can argue with each other from now on.”

🙌🙌🙌🙌

EpicIndividual · 02/02/2020 14:30

“Life's too short. These days, I'm too impatient to buy green bananas.“

😂😂😂😂😂

EpicIndividual · 02/02/2020 14:31

“kindly Americans who came over to us to sympathise with "your terrible loss.”

😳😳😳

WeSavedSallySally · 02/02/2020 14:36

Apparently green bananas are the new '' superfood'' less sugar and something in the them that aids gut health.

EpicIndividual · 02/02/2020 14:37

“Apparently green bananas are the new '' superfood'' less sugar and something in the them that aids gut health.”

If only the contained something that made them remotely edible. 😂

SingingLily · 02/02/2020 14:40

I'm going in the kitchen shortly to make a bread-and-butter pudding but with brioche and lemon zest. Now that's what I consider a superfood. Pity it can't be counted as one of my five-a-day Grin

howabout · 02/02/2020 14:42

That has made my day. Whole lifetime of disapproval over my banana eating habits debunked. Grin

SilverySurfer · 02/02/2020 14:44

I think you're right Lily Looking back on my 70+ years, I had never seen anything so completely ridiculous as the reaction to Diana's death. Yes it was sad that a young woman had died and left two sons without a mother but the ridiculous outpourings had never been seen before.

I think it opened the floodgates and unfortunately we are never going to put the cork back in the bottle. Frankly I'm glad I'm not young, I'm nearer death than I may want to be (unless I go ga ga in which case I will take myself off to Dignitas) but hope the future is better for you all than I imagine it might be.

Time for a Wine before I drag an old tv into the hall.

WeSavedSallySally · 02/02/2020 14:48

Bless silvery.. Take care shifting heavy stuff.

DustyDiamond · 02/02/2020 14:48

Silvery - I'm genuinely wondering if you're actually my grandma...!

Was it your birthday on Brexit Day?!

OP posts:
SingingLily · 02/02/2020 14:49

You go carefully there, Silvery. That's quite an item to be hefting about.

Anyway, my remaining lifetime ambition is to pick up my work pension for far longer than I ever picked up my pay. Grin I hope it's the same with you.

DustyDiamond · 02/02/2020 14:50

Cancel that...
Just seen you said 70+ years, she's 80+

As you were 😂🍷

(And YY to taking care with the heavy stuff ❤️)

I'm all agog now Shock.

This could be a classic MN moment...

SingingLily · 02/02/2020 14:53

As you were 😂🍷

What a letdown! Grin

EpicIndividual · 02/02/2020 14:54

Haha! Loving Silvery potentially being Dusty’s grandma! 😂😂😂

DustyDiamond · 02/02/2020 14:55

Sadly not Lily 😟

Just seen that Silvery is far too young to fit the bill 😂

My Grandma turned 88 on the 31st - she was chuffed to be sharing her bday with Brexit 😍😂

She's been getting v v riled by the shenanigans in Parliament over last few years & has been plugged into the Parliament channel constantly

She hates Jezza with a passion as well 😂

SingingLily · 02/02/2020 14:57

Then it was a doubly great day for a celebration, Dusty! Please give her my belated birthday wishes.

She sounds amazing.

DustyDiamond · 02/02/2020 15:00

Just realised - I'm the age my G'ma was when I was born 😱😱😱😱😱

I'm feeling v old now 😩😩😩

OP posts:
SingingLily · 02/02/2020 15:08

Your grandma was 32 when you were born??? Not so unusual these days, Dusty. 😂

Here's the political cartoon from the Mail on Sunday. I just had to share.

Does it remind you of anything?

We are being watched! Lol 😂

EpicIndividual · 02/02/2020 15:11

Loving “The Flag” 😂

SingingLily · 02/02/2020 15:13

Well, this is the Hotbed of Optimism after all.

ommmward · 02/02/2020 15:15

*epic" no offence taken at all 🙂 I write things down to work out what I think. Very often, I'm already error correcting as I hit post. Please be assured that I hold my opinions very lightly.

How do we define ourselves now? I suspect "rejoinders" and "just people"? Now we're out of the EU, or on the way for certain, our desire to leave the over grown trade cartel doesn't have to define us at all, does it?

With luck we can find something super important to replace that identity with. Tea bag out before or after the milk goes in? (Before, obviously, and anyone who says otherwise is morally degenerate and must be SHUNNED)
