I cannot personally vote as I have lived overseas for too long. Who would you vote for and why?

OP posts:

My MP has a majority of almost 34,000. Even if that goes down quite a bit he'll still get in. Who I vote for really makes no difference. The same goes for the majority of constituencies- the 'suck it up' version of democracy.
A more representative system is overdue but it won't happen.

Roomba · 24/07/2019 19:46

Labour. I could have written the second post in this thread word for word.

MartiniDry · 24/07/2019 19:55

I would vote for none of them.

I could never bring myself to vote Conservative while they are so at odds with the needs and welfare of the average person in the street. I would never bring myself to vote Labour while they are replacing women with men in dresses, are intent on further decimating the education system, or while Momentum is in existence.

The anti European, racist parties aren't worth wasting breath on.

That leaves the Greens and the Lib Dems and I can sum up my thoughts on both in one word - Challenor - so they can fuck off too.

I'm not simply politically homeless, I'm politically furious.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 20:00

I'd vote for whoever stood best chance of getting the tories out.

Iambuffy · 24/07/2019 20:04

I hear you martini

notangelinajolie · 24/07/2019 20:06

Conservative.

EllebellyBeeblebrox · 24/07/2019 20:12

Limited options here too in Tory land. Our MP who is consistently re-elected is a pig who has never had the cojones to vote against his party on anything, thus his voting record goes against everything I stand for. I've also met him in person and he was a slimy toad.
The upshot is probably LD as they have the greatest chance of toppling him, but my heart is with Labour.

IdrisElbasLeftTesticle · 24/07/2019 20:12

Labour. I don’t like everyone in the party, I don’t like the whole leadership team, I don’t like all their policies. I doubt I would agree with every single policy of any party.

The tories are running our economy into the ground, shitting all over the most vulnerable and and generally just a bunch of self-serving cunts.

Labour. Every time.

colouringinpro · 24/07/2019 20:16

Lib Dem. Solely to Remain.

Bluntness100 · 24/07/2019 20:16

Tory, and I'm hopeful that Boris can bring in a bit more unity to be honest. I don't think he's the Buffoon he's made out to be, I think he's intelligent with a set of balls, will be interesting to see how this pans out.

But yeah, I'd give him a chance.

IdrisElbasLeftTesticle · 24/07/2019 20:17

Oh, and I’m Jewish by the way. Still labour.

MoodLighting · 24/07/2019 20:20

Ugh. Not the Tories, but not Labour under Corbyn either.

Lib Dems I guess.

GrammarTeacher · 24/07/2019 20:22

Lib Dem. Remain and closest opposition to our bizarrely popular at the ballot box MP. She is one of the many reasons I would never vote Tory.

PostNotInHaste · 24/07/2019 20:22

Lib Dem as will not run the risk of my vote being counted as pro Brexit.

EmmaGrundyForPM · 24/07/2019 20:25

Its difficult. I am a Labour party member and voted for JC in the leadership elections but have been very disappointed with his response re Bexit and the anti Semitism charges.

However, cant bring myself to vote for the Greens (Amy Challenor anyone?) Or the LinDems so will probably go with Labour again

KennDodd · 24/07/2019 20:29

I live in a super safe Tory seat.
Wouldn't vote Tory, don't understand how anybody can still support them. I don't think they could have done more damage to this country if they'd deliberately set out to do so.
Wouldn't never vote Labour as long as JC or anybody like him is in charge.
Lib Dems have no chance and then there's all the TWAW shit.
Like the Greens but as above with Lib Dems.
Brexit party are a bunch of racist twats who can't wait to bend us over so we can be fucked by America.

So, three of the five above are led by racists and the other two have have swallowed the TWAW cool aid.

I expect I will look online and go for whoever has the best chance of dislodging the Tory and vote for them (unless they're Brexit party as even worse than Tories)

SlipperyLizard · 24/07/2019 20:31

Never Tories, even though for me personally/financially that would be sensible.

Usually Labour, but Corbyn is a disaster and dismantling women’s rights.

Lib Dem, Green = Challenor so that’s a no.

I will spoil my ballot for the first time, probably by attaching an Adult Human Female sticker.

KennDodd · 24/07/2019 20:35

Have people written to their MPs about the TWAW shit? If they get enough letters they will change course if they think it'll cost them votes.

Graphista · 24/07/2019 20:36

"Labour need to remember who they are supposed to represent" genuinely interested to know who you THINK that is?

"Would also like to see some sensible policies rather than woke-vote bait." No manifesto is perfect but have you actually read labours?

"LibDems are another no. How the hell can anyone trust them after the Nick and Dave show, and university fees? They sold their souls for a ministerial car." Totally agree and now the Twaw bollocks!

"Would never vote for a neo Marxist antisemite."
You think neo fascist, completely racist and xenophobic is ok though? (Not that I agree with your description of labour)

"Shocking to see how many posters here support tory policies!" Agree - even if they don't agree with their policies! Why would you vote for them then?! Makes no sense!

Bountylisa7 - "I have been Labour all my life but didn’t vote for them last time and won’t this time. Until Corbyn goes and the Unions power is diminished I won’t be voting for them again." Again genuine questions - roughly how old are you? Do you have any understanding of the history of the Labour Party or who they were created to represent?

Whirlwinds - they really aren't ACTING like feminists at the moment with the twaw nonsense.

"The tories are running our economy into the ground, shitting all over the most vulnerable and and generally just a bunch of self-serving cunts.

Labour. Every time." This!

"Oh, and I’m Jewish by the way. Still labour." Refreshing to read. Yes the Labour Party has problems with anti-semitism but no more so than other parties particularly the tories who are just racist all round but generally usually more clever at concealing it - and yet look who they now have as leader! Says it all on that particular topic I think!

Same applies on twaw issues too - the tories have been very subtle on it but they are very much also dismantling sex based rights.

TeacupDrama · 24/07/2019 20:40

Won't vote SNP as I think scoxit would be 10 times worse than Brexit
Won't vote Labour as not supporting an anti- Semitic party with a vision to bankruptcy
Won't vote Lib Dems or green as they don't understand that biological sex can't be changed and they don't respect leave vote
Won't vote Brexit party though I think Brexit would be good as some are racist and they have no other policies
So that leaves vote Tory or don't vote. To be honest I don't think TM even tried to negotiate a deal with EU

So not sure

Speckledhen10 · 24/07/2019 20:41

Conservatives. OH @ I both work full time on a little over minimum wage, but we’re far worse off than several lazy arses in both our families who can’t be bothered working (or work cash in hand) & end up far better off than us with their benefits. I’m sure labour would just give benefit families more money & make employees (who they think are stupid mugs) pay more tax.

Graphista · 24/07/2019 20:42

"Have people written to their MPs about the TWAW shit? If they get enough letters they will change course if they think it'll cost them votes." I regularly communicate with my MP and msp (both currently SNP in a seat that swings between SNP and labour) on many matters inc this. But I definitely agree more people should do so.

Last election the Tory candidate made the mistake of knocking at my door without apparently being prepared to answer questions on any of the major issues! Very apologetic but seriously how pathetic is that?!

noodlenosefraggle · 24/07/2019 20:45

Genuinely no idea. Live in a marginal tory seat, so may hold my nose and vote Labour. I don't think Corbyn has long in the job and I don't think they will win an election with him in charge, so hopefully someone competent will take over.

Graphista · 24/07/2019 20:48

"OH @ I both work full time on a little over minimum wage" so do you have DC? Do you get child benefit? Tax credits?

I despair I really do - do you even understand that as far as the Tory party are concerned your circumstances are nobody's fault but your own? That if you do get child benefit, tax credits as far as they're concerned you are no better than the people you're looking down your nose at in your post?

Have you even looked at the Labour Party manifesto or the Tory party's?

Eg

"But we will not ask ordinary households to pay more. A Labour government will guarantee no rises in income tax for those earning below £80,000 a year, and no increases in personal National Insurance Contributions or the rate of VAT."

I urge you to at the very least inform yourself before deciding.

CupoTeap · 24/07/2019 20:49

Lib Dem's and just like the hung parliament I don't believe this would be a wasted vote currently.
