How do I stop these flyers?

Hello all, I was wondering if anyone knows of a quick way to stop UKIP and the Brexit party sending me campaign material?

In the past week I've received two items of post, one from each, both addressed to me by name, which are colourful campaign material implying I've voted previously ("you told them once, now tell them again"). It's not in an envelope so postman etc can read it all.

I'm confused since I've never voted UKIP and I voted remain. Ironically, my leave voting husband has received nothing.

There's no unsubscribe option and just a marketing address miles away and whilst I hold no issue with others voting how they see fit, I don't particularly want people thinking I've voted for parties which do not represent my views whatsoever.

Thanks

Yeah, you need to get yourself and everyone in your house off of the electoral register

Or grow a thicker skin

I sent mine back in an A4 brown envelope, which was stuffed with travel brochures and other junk mail. Without a stamp. Which should mean they will have to pay the postage costs.

I also wrote on the flyer saying I don't want this filth through my letterbox.

Felt much better after that 😊

Did once leap up after one came through the letter box and chased a canvasser down the road to give him his flyer back. I told him to make sure we never got any leaflets again. So far, it's worked! Because he's too terrified to risk another encounter with the red, sweaty, angry woman in slippers

@SherlockHolmes I like your style!

@Prynhawn thank you, I've just contacted the council to ask to be removed from the open register.

I'm not sure it's just the open register as I got this and I'm not on the open one ☹️ I like the idea of posting it back to them though

AnyoldAnna · 21/05/2019 17:46

I got these too and my DH didn’t. I just tore them up and shoved them in the recycling. We’re not on the open register either so not sure where they got my details from.

char1915 · 21/05/2019 17:46

I'm a post lady- we get paid to deliver all leaflets from different parties. There is no way out of not getting them.
If you hate the other leaflets we deliver eg dominoes then you can opt out. X

happymummy12345 · 21/05/2019 17:51

I got one today with my name on, my husband didn't. I don't want them sending me that as I don't agree with them at all (though of course others can vote how they see fit).
I'm not on the open register and I never vote at all, I'm not interested in politics whatsoever.
(I read that posting them back doesn't actually help, and sometimes parties will select one registered voter per address to send leaflets to).

horizontalis · 21/05/2019 17:54

They seem to address them to the first person alphabetically on the electoral roll at your address. They used to be sent to DH but adult DD gets them all now Grin

DieCryHate · 21/05/2019 18:37

Wahhhh. My husband finds it hilarious. My initial is the one before his alphabetically (as is our child's when he's old enough to inherit this dubious privilege!) if we have another one I'll call them something beginning with A. Refusing junk sounds tempting but I don't think I could give up the take away menus Blush

@happymummy12345 If you have an opinion on a party's views then you are interested in politics. Do you not care about education, healthcare, workers rights?

NoBaggyPants · 21/05/2019 18:51

Guardian article on why you're receiving the leaflets:

www.theguardian.com/politics/2019/may/20/european-elections-2019-am-i-registered-to-vote-and-why-am-i-getting-those-leaflets

DieCryHate · 22/05/2019 19:06

@NoBaggyPants thank you, the electoral office emailed me back today saying similar.

Political parties have access to the full register- not the open register.

They are all entitled to send campaign literature during campaigns.
