Alistair Campbell

Was required to watch a video of him talking about his mental illness. I genuinely have a lot of sympathy for anyone suffering with mental illness, I have first hand experience of seeing what this can do to a person.

However he seems to have a whiff of doing this all for self promotion and as a narcissistic attempt to be back in the public domain. I also was at an event where he spoke and he seemed very short tempered and used his mental health as a reason to treat others badly.

Anyone have anything to add?

I 'interviewed' him for a uni assignment once. Or rather, he agreed to answer some questions and I bottled it so wrote my essay using (and referencing) old quotes! He then read it and said it was 'nicely written and perceptive' or something like that & maybe it was because I was nice about him!

Anyway, my politics have shifted well to the left of his since then and while like you I appreciate his MH advocating, I don't really know how much I agree with him on the day to day

Sometimes I get the feeling that his attitude is still very much to think that Blair et al got it right and that deviating from that is labour's problem. Which I can't agree with, the party can't be tory lite and expect to be successful when people need social services and welfare and a government that is less about cutting back and blaming people for their ills

I think he is a bully and I don't like bullies.

I've met him twice now and I'd say he's the sharpest, cleverest person I ever met. Also was very kind, professional and friendly.

I think he does have an "on air" persona though that can be a little grating.
